5 hottest events for Austin's tech startup community this week

Looking to get into the Austin tech startup scene or simply expand your network? From improving your marketing to a founder talk, this week is full of events sure to inspire anyone in Austin.

1. DSPeaks Presents: Evan Spiegel, CEO/Co-Founder of Snapchat, March 3 at 6:30 p.m.

Evan will be speaking on the popularity of Snapchat, how students can get involved in entrepreneurship and startups, as well as his thoughts regarding the future of the application. Evan will be taking questions from the audience in a very unique way using Snapchat.

2. Startup Grind Austin Hosts Craig Cummings (RideScout), March 3 at 7 p.m.

Craig Cummings is the Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of RideScout, the “Kayak” of Ground Transportation. RideScout was acquired by car2go, a Daimler subsidiary, in September 2014.  Since leaving the military in 2009, Craig has co-founded and served as COO of BTS (exit 2011) and co-founded APX Labs (NEA led $10MM Series A in April 2014).  

3. Build Your Marketing Toolkit, March 4 at 6 p.m.

Many small businesses and organizations find themselves seeking the right strategies to make their marketing efforts as effective as possible. But with so many different marketing activities that they could focus on, they often miss some of the important marketing concepts that will help them understand why those activities are so important. This presentation is designed to uncover some of those core concepts and show that a little bit of marketing knowledge can go a long way. 

4. Building iOS Apps with Swift Bootcamp, March 7 at 10 a.m.

During this Saturday bootcamp, you will learn the essentials and best practices of the Swift programming language, from optionals and closures. You'll also learn about the common pitfalls and mistakes that occur during the app development process, and how to avoid them.

5. Meet the Alums: Front-end and UX Info Session, March 9 at 7 p.m.

Come meet two of our grads who have taken Front-End Web Development or User Experience Design programs. Learn about their experiences and what they built during the program, and ask any burning questions you have.
