Here's what Austin's 12 most promising startups of 2015 actually do

The Austin Chamber of Commerce announced its list of the most promising startups of 2015 last week. The list is comprised of 4 early stage companies with revenue below $1 million, 5 growth stage companies with revenue between $1 and $10 million, and 3 scale stage companies with revenue above $10 million. The companies span a diverse group of industries, but many made our Top 100 Tech Companies in Austin list and our Top 50 startups to watch in 2015 list.  Understanding just what it is these companies of the future produce can be hard to understand, so we've compiled a list with videos and photos.

Early Stage/Seed Stage:

Everfest: A calendar and search engine for finding events, music, film, food, drinks, and everything else fun near you. Did you know they let their employees (and by let, we mean encourage) to wear costumes to the office?

Bitfusion.io: A company that creates software that shows the benefits of using hardware accelerators. If you don’t know what that means, watch the video above.

Green & Grow Inc.: This company makes agricultural products that improve crop yields.

ENTvantage Dx: This company works with physicians to give them timely information about the causes of ear, nose and throat illnesses with in-office tests.

Growth Stage:

CognitiveScale: This company’s software trains computers to gather meaningful data and analytics.

Neogenis Labs:  This company creates something called nitric oxide nutraceuticals and nutritionals. If you don’t know what that means, you’re probably not alone.

Illumitex: This company is making LED lights better suited to growing plants without the use of the sun.

EPIC: This company makes protein bars out of animals. It’s like beef jerky for a new generation.

SparkCognition: This company bills itself as the ‘world’s first Cognitive Security Analytics company.’ Basically it makes software that allows computers to learn, artificial intelligence algorithms and, probably someday, Skynet.

Scale Stage:

SpareFoot: This company provides an online marketplace for the self-storage industry.

Silvercar: This company is trying to revolutionize the way you rent a car. No more lines, counters, paperwork or hassle.

Volusion: This company makes e-commerce solutions for businesses both big and small.
