Adding to the city's ever-growing list of accolades, Glassdoor.com recognized Austin as one of the top cities in the United States for jobs.

The city received high marks in the study for its unique mixture of a low cost of living, a high median salary, and a ton of job openings. The only cities that ranked above Austin were Raleigh, NC, Kansas City, MO, and Oklahoma City, OK.

The study noted there were over 33,000 jobs available in Austin, which has a population of just over 1.9 million. The city’s median base salary is $50,000, with a median home value around $226,000. Austin’s job satisfaction rating is 3.3 out of 5.

Other cities, especially those on the coasts, also scored well in the study, but crushingly high home prices kept them from the top. San Jose, CA, for example, has almost the same size population as Austin. It also has almost twice as many job openings and twice the median base salary. But, to buy a home in San Jose it will run you around $860,000 – over three times the price of a house here in Austin.

Some other Texas cities also scored well in the study. San Antonio took the number nine spot. San Antonio has almost 30,000 job openings, with a population of 2.3 million. The median base salary is $40,000, and a home will cost you in the neighborhood of $147,000. San Antonio's job satisfaction rating is also 3.3.

Further down the list you will find Dallas-Fort Worth in the 14th spot, and Houston took the 21st spot.

Cheap homes, good jobs and lots of them — one more reason to love Austin.
