Encast launches with $2.25M seed round at SXSW

In the time-honored tradition of launching new startups at SXSW, today

made its debut with a bang, announcing $2.25 million in seed funding from angel investors.

The company’s platform, WorkHERO, allows employers to integrate charitable giving with their payroll systems, facilitating employee donations through pre-tax paycheck deductions.

100 percent of the donations go to charities, without processing fees for donors or recipients. Instead, the subscription-based platform charges fees on a per-user agreement or at a flat rate that is scaled for numbers of employees.

“We are flattered by investor support,” CEO and co-founder Leo Ramirez said in a statement. “But we are also confident in what we are creating. People want to give and to help others and our WorkHERO platform expands philanthropy to enable all of us to begin giving at any point in our lives and careers. Our technology will create more charitable dollars and they will be shared more equitably by more causes.”
