Austin-based social services platform Findhelp announced today a $5 million Series B round of financing led by Techstars Ventures (TSV).

“There’s a lot of unnecessary suffering going on for many Americans including veterans, those with low income, and those with complicated medical conditions. Many don’t know about government or charitable programs that can help,” said Findhelp CEO Erine Gray in a statement. “The growth capital will help us extend our lead as the number one search and referral platform for social services. We’ll also continue to partner with the most innovative health care organizations, community foundations and governments.”

Findhelp is reinventing the way people apply for government and charitable social service programs. Users can search for food, health, housing, and job training programs in their area and apply online, cutting down administrative costs and making the process more seamless.

The free platform is currently available for use across the nation and more than 206,000 people have taken advantage, according to Findhelp.

“What we liked about Findhelp was that they found a way to provide a valuable service to folks in need but also put together a business model to support it," Jason Seats of Techstars Ventures said in a statement. "We were impressed with their customer list, which includes some of the country’s most well-respected hospitals, foundations and health insurance companies.”

Seats will join Findhelp’s board. The company has raised $6M to date.
