5 events in Austin tech this week you shouldn't miss

Every week, we bring you the best events in Austin tech. This week’s roundup includes lessons from an expert pitch man, a free class in front-end development and two chances to put your skills to work for the community. Read on for details, and check out our events calendar for more.

As Seen on TV: Learn From a Real Decision Maker How To Make The Perfect Pitch, April 4 at 6 p.m.

Elliott Brackett has been marketing products on direct response television for over 25 years, and is also an experienced angel investor. Learn what information real decision makers need in order to make a decision on your idea. This interactive seminar will start by presenting some examples of direct response television campaigns.

Free Crash Course: Building with Front End Basics, April 5 at 6 p.m.

Spend three hours learning how to get started with building websites and web apps. This course will introduce you to front end development to design, style, and solve programming challenges on the web. No previous experience is required. This event will be part lecture and part live demo, so bring your laptop and come ready to code along.

Making the World Programmable, April 6 at 7 p.m.

In this talk, we’ll explore all the ways in which we can make software more generative and programmable, enabling new kinds of innovations and empowering people to do more. Bring your questions, bring your ideas, and let’s see what we come up with. No new technologies to learn here, just a fresh perspective that might make our work more meaningful.

Free Community Workshop: Hackathon 101, April 7 at 7 p.m.

Learn how anyone, even people without a coding background, can hack for Austin. We’ll show you just how you can take your skills — any skills, from dog walking to competitive eating — and put them to use on a project. We’ll also showcase the types of projects we have worked on over the past four years.

do_action: WordPress Charity Hackathon, April 8 at 8 a.m.

We will spend one day building brand new WordPress sites for 10 deserving non-profit organizations that are based in Austin. We will start and complete every site on the same day and, at the end of it, the 10 non-profits will each have an awesome new online presence (with free hosting) so that they can get on with the work that they do so well.

Psst. Want to promote your own event? You can add it to our calendar, and even import your entire Meetup group. Just log in to your Built In Austin profile and head over to our events page.
