4 podcasts to help you stay current on the Austin tech and entrepreneurial scene

Austin's radio stations and traffic share one thing in common: they're both less than awesome. But one way to offset the inevitable long traffic waits without tuning in to commercial after commercial is to turn to podcasts. They offer a way to get a pulse of the city's entrepreneurial and tech space, to fill the silence (and stymie your road rage) with enlightening, relevant information.

Learn about the people who lead Austin tech, new products and the community that supports it while you head in for the work day with these four Austin-born podcasts.

Tom Gerdhart and Dan Provost, the founding duo from Studio Neat in Austin, started the podcast Thoroughly Considered with Myke Hurley, the founder of Relay.fm. The show began in September 2015 and now has 19 episodes discussing entrepreneurship, product design and the rollercoaster of emotions that accompany running a startup.

Topics vary from the benefits of attending conferences to Kickstarter campaigns.

The founder of brand marketing agency 97 Degrees West, Vera Fischer, launched her podcast System Execution this September.

Now at five episodes, her show covers the strategies and systems behind successful companies. Next year, she'll circle back with previously featured guests to share how they've adapted those systems and what they learned along the way.

Fischer has deep roots in Austin, with previous roles at GSD&M and Forgent Networks prior to founding her own company, acting as a member of the University Area Rotary Club, and is a current mentor at Capital Factory.

Production studio Rooster Teeth created the nationally recognized online video Red vs. Blue, the reality gamer series The Gauntlet, the comedy series Rooster Teeth Shorts, and the show Immersion, which takes video game concepts and tests them in the real world.

It only makes sense then that their team in Austin would also produce a weekly(ish) podcast covering the games, films and projects slated in the Rooster Teeth pipeline. Although the topics don't strictly fall into the tech industry, the podcast is worth a listen.

The newspaper industry has gained a reputation for being an outdated business model. However, the Austin American Statesman challenges that perspective through their podcast, Statesman Shots.

Hosts Omar Gallaga and Tolly Moseley keep listeners up to date on the cultural beat of the city, covering everything Austin including local news in tech, business, government, art and entertainment.

All 126 episodes can be searched by category to strictly stick to tech news, which currently includes 64 podcasts. You can find all the episodes here.
