9 tech companies rubbing shoulders with Apple, Amazon and Google in north Austin

It's no secret that residential and commercial real estate downtown has climbed in price over the past decade. As a result, many locals have moved north, taking advantage of lower housing costs and the growing collection of retail, entertainment and restaurant amenities located at The Domain.

Tech companies have followed suit. Amazon, Google, Apple and IBM all hold large corporate offices north of Highway 183, and startups and other digital tech teams have also found a home in north Austin. Take a look at a few of the organizations embracing what the area has to offer.

Less than two miles east of The Domain is the office where the first 360-degree VR mobile platform was developed. The Virtuix team works out of a humble office off Kramer Lane where they regularly invite guests to experience their active VR system in their office-based gaming studio.

Datical's office resides on the quiet street of Blalock Drive near Alderbook Pocket Park. Since 2012, their database management automation platform has been used by clients like Wells Fargo, eBay, GE Transportation and McKesson. Following an average of 300-percent growth in subscription revenue throughout 2015, the team expanded its existing office to make way for a growing headcount.

The Accruent team moved offices in late 2016 from just outside of The Domain to a space directly in the heart of it. By moving into the new location, the real estate management solutions company was able to combine two Accruent offices into one, which now hosts about 450 local employees.

Founded in 2005, Bazaarvoice moved to its current Quarry Oaks headquarters in 2015 after outgrowing its previous office. Their SaaS platform helps companies build brand loyalty by spreading customer content and reviews to influence purchase decision making.

SparkCognition neighbors Bazaarvoice at the Stonelake Office Park off West Braker Lane. The machine learning, AI-driven analytics and security startup is home to about 100 employees and is continuing to grow following a big year of funding in 2016.

In the heart of The Domain lies Q1Media's headquarters, which the company moved to in 2015. Their team develops digital advertising tools to increase a marketing campaign's reach, while also providing analytical insights for publishers.

Also finding a home in The Domain is Blackbaud, a Charleston-based company that develops software for clients working in nonprofits, education, foundations and more. Their north Austin office is home to more than 350 employees.

The North American headquarters for Absolute Software is a few buildings down the street from Q1Media's office. The company provides risk management and security solutions. With additional offices in Vancouver, Berkshire and Ho Chi Minh City, Absolute's Austin office is home to their U.S.-based sales team and consumer business.

Just a five-minute walk from 4th Tap Brewing Cooperative is the office of Eventus Systems. Eventus's analytical platform, Validus, provides data intel into trading, operations, surveillance, compliance and risk management for wholesalers, U.S. equity execution and clearing firms, regulators and proprietary trading firms.
