Take your summer to the next level with these 5 helpful apps

Summer is well under way, but there is plenty of time left to enjoy what Austin has to offer during the hotter months. So we rounded up five local apps to help you make the most of it. From local eateries to hydration support, free events and more, we’ve got you covered.

For local discounts, deals and offerings, InstantLocal is available to keep you in the know. Using a photo feed with real-time updates, the free app connects businesses, restaurants and retailers with folks looking for local hot spots. See something you like? Click on the photo to learn business location and operating hours. The app launched out of Austin in 2015.

Stay cool and hydrated this summer with Trago’s smart water bottle. The connected cap feeds information directly to an app that coaches users on smart hydration practices. The Trago app links with other fitness trackers to update automatically as you exercise, factoring in variables like Austin’s 95-percent-humidity summer mornings.

Don’t let Austin’s lack of parking get in the way of your fun. ParXit’s app helps Austinites locate available spots in mixed-use neighborhoods. Users can reserve spots ahead of time and pay securely over the app. And if you’ve got a space at your residence, you can actually make your spot available and collect 85 percent of the parking fare. The Austin startup launched locally in 2015.

Balling on a budget? There’s plenty of free stuff to do in our city — especially over June, July and August. The local website Free Fun in Austin launched in 2010 to highlight complementary and affordable events like hiking, day trips, museums, splash pads and area farmers markets .

Having too much fun to sit at home and cook? Mix in some healthy, handmade meals in between barbecues and beers with Snap Kitchen’s pre-made entrees and juices. Order breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks directly from the Snap Kitchen app to pickup at one of Austin’s nine locations — or use Favor for on-demand delivery.
