Business Development Manager
BigCommerce, the leading cloud commerce platform for fast-growing brands, is looking for an ambitious Business Development Manager to join our growing Strategic Business Development Team. As a key member of the team, you will help build a world-class Technology Partner ecosystem to support the needs of our merchants.
The primary role for the Business Development Manager is to acquire companies into the BigCommerce Platform. Focus areas include securing the Partner relationship, launching integration processes as needed, and transitioning to the Partner Management team. The Business Development Manager will be measured against a set of success criteria, including revenue growth and process alignment.
What you will do
- Develop new Technology Partner relationships by identifying and engaging high potential leads across a variety of verticals and nurturing those leads into becoming active partners in our ecosystem.
- Build and manage a tactical plan for a portfolio of Go-To-Market partners.
- Contribute to and execute a strategy to drive new partner acquisition to the BigCommerce Technology Program.
- Work with partners to develop integration success metrics, including specific KPIs that drive merchant adoption and revenue growth for BigCommerce.
- Work closely with the Partner Management and Partner Marketing teams to ensure successful onboarding and launches of acquired partners.
- Liaise with the BigCommerce Product Team and partners to identify required product/solution feature/functionality to allow for continuity with regard to their existing solution and ensure the timely launch of quality partner integrations.
- Close new business deals with terms that meet defined success criteria and deliver results in line with financial targets and company strategy. This will include contract management and negotiations.
- Administrative duties (i.e. reporting, documentation, etc.) as required to meet tactical and strategic objectives
- Travel occasionally to meet with partners to develop key relationships.
Who you are
- 5+ years professional experience, including 3+ years technology sales, partner management, or business development experience in a high volume, fast-paced environment.
- Bachelor’s degree, ideally in business or similar field. MBA preferred.
- Experience within a SaaS platform or eCommerce organization driving adoption of a SaaS-based solution with Partners and their clients preferred.
- Results Oriented - Your have strong attention to detail, organizational abilities, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and passion for getting things done right and on time.
- Master Communicator - Excellent communication (written and verbal), presentation, and client / partner relationship management skills are critical.
- Negotiator - Strong ability to influence and steer discussions to achieve desired outcomes.
- Talented Seller - You have a demonstrated ability to drive complex sales with all stakeholders, including executive management and technical teams, and have successfully, consistently achieved quotas and/or objectives within an outbound, client / partner acquisition driven business.
- Solution Oriented - You have the ability to identify and creatively solve complex problems to keep a partnership on track.
- Confident - You’ve mastered the art of the cold open, have developed skills for overcoming objections, and have a healthy approach to handling rejection.
- Business Acumen - You are able to understand and execute strategic sales planning and methodologies

- Comfortable using technology - Strong Internet, email, and electronic document management skills. Knowledge of Salesforce a plus.
- Travel Flexibility - May require upwards of 15% travel (7-8 weeks annually) to meet with clients
