Summary of Purpose:
The Database Administrator I works on the Infrastructure Services team and is responsible for administration of all Oracle and departmental and enterprise databases as well as assist in the administrator of all MySQL departmental and enterprise databases. Responsibilities include day-to-day database administration tasks, such as responding to monitoring alerts, backup/restore tasks, user and group creation and administration and new installations. The position is expected to provide backup and assistance to Database Administrator III as necessary.

Essential Functions
    • Infuse the Patch Values into your work ethic, every day and every interaction
    • Work as part of a team and provide 24x7 support as required for production
    • Commitment to achieve 100% uptime of all production databases
    • Proactively monitor databases and database hosts to ensure up time
    • Installation, configuration and upgrading of Oracle 11g database systems and related products for Production, Dev and QA
    • Installation, configuration and upgrading of MySQL database systems and related products for Production, Dev and QA
    • Maintain sound backup and recovery policies and procedures; verify backup integrity and usability.
    • Provide input to Database design and implementation
    • Implement and maintain database security (create and maintain users and roles, assign privileges)
    • Perform database tuning and performance monitoring
    • Perform application tuning and performance monitoring
    • Set up and maintain documentation and standards
    • Plan growth and changes (capacity planning)
    • Perform general technical trouble shooting and give consultation to Dev/QA teams
    • Interface with vendors for technical support
    • Acquire and apply MSSQL Administration skills via training provided by Database Administrator III and other means, and serve as a backup MSSQL Database Administrator when necessary.
    • Provide Oracle training to Database Administrator III, and assist the latter in assuming a backup Oracle DBA role.
Position Requirements
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (BS Computer Science or BS MIS preferred)
    • Linux and/or UNIX experience – 2-3 years
    • MySQL administrator experience - 2-3 years
    • Oracle 11g administration experience – 2-3 years
    • AWS RDS experience is a plus
    • Experience with data modeling concepts
    • Experience supporting iterative software development teams
    • Passion for delivering excellence
