We’re a small team of experienced developers determined to overthrow the entrenched car rental industry. We emphasize team ownership, test driven development, and moving fast without breaking things. We are looking for an experienced Linux Sysadmin to join our development team and take a lead role building and managing the Silvercar’s infrastructure.

About You

We don’t expect the successful applicant to be an expert in everything, but you should have experience in:

• Debian based Linux distributions such as Ubuntu Linux
• Internet Protocols - HTTP, TLS/SSL, DNS, SSH
• Web application load balancing
• Security concepts and best practices - Firewalls, IDS, IPS, VPN
• Automation - Chef, Capistrano or similar.
• Scripting languages - Python, Ruby, Bash
• Virtualization using KVM, VMWare, XenServer
• AWS Infrastructure - EC2, VPC, S3, CloudFront, Route53
• Open source databases. Preferably MySQL
• Source code management and deployment tools such as Git
• A healthy interest in programming languages and frameworks like Ruby on Rails
• Extensive experience with monitoring tools such as Nagios and Cloudwatch
• Ability to interact across a spectrum of development teams - from platform to client side application
• Strong problem solving skills with an owner mentality

 What you’ll be working on 

• Design, build and maintain production networks and infrastructure.
• Develop and advocate for good network and infrastructure best practices.
• Ensure the security of the network and infrastructure is appropriate and regularly reviewed.
• Troubleshoot network and infrastructure problems and work with other teams when necessary.
• Improve maintenance and monitoring tools to help with problem resolution.
• Work autonomously and actively find ways to enhance, automate, and make existing systems and process’ more efficient and fault tolerant.
• Communicate and collaborate effectively within and between teams.
• Participate in an after hours on-call rotation.
