What we're looking for:

Modernize's goal is to help alleviate the pain points for homeowners when they work on home improvement projects. The Director of Email Marketing leads the direct communication and interactions with homeowners. You will be responsible to continuously uncover new engagement opportunities, collaborate with internal teams, and drive serious growth.

This position requires expertise in email and more broadly digital marketing. We are looking for a creative, analytical thinker who can apply marketing best practices to campaigns in a fast-paced environment. You are someone who is able to balance strategic thinking with tactical execution. The core to this role is working cross functionally, managing internal and external relationships, advising on industry best practices, and leading our email marketing team. The goal is to implement communication tactics and marketing strategies that help homeowners complete their home improvement projects.

What you will do:

  • Own and implement the comprehensive strategy and programs for email and communication: homeowner journeys, lifecycle campaigns, and engagement triggers (primarily focused on transactional and promotional email but including additional channels)
  • Provide leadership to a team of email marketers building and executing multiple campaigns
  • Lead email and communication development working with engineering, design, and other marketing channels
  • Champion continuous improvement of the email and communication through targeting/segmenting, personalization, dynamic content, and template development
  • Maintain curiosity about what’s next in digital marketing and make platform and technology recommendations
  • Develop robust A/B and MVT testing programs to optimize engagement and revenue employing a rigorous test, measure and iterate approach to drive improvement
  • Comply with CAN-SPAM guidelines and monitor deliverability and help to remediate issues
  • Provide recommendations and forecasts each month to business stakeholders
  • Report on program progress against goals and engagement metrics to senior management

What you will need:

  • Solid 6–10 years of experience in leading digital marketing initiatives with 5 years of email marketing experience - preferred team leadership experience
  • Strong analytic and quantitative skills - perform analysis on channel performance from large data sets (use excel, SQL, etc.) to develop and measure marketing program
  • Experience with enterprise level email platforms and building marketing automation cycles for personalized customer journeys - vendor management a plus
  • Experience developing creative/content for consumers
  • Knowledge of email best practices, deliverability improvement, reputation management, CAN-SPAM compliance and industry standard KPIs
  • Experience working with ISPs on deliverability challenges, especially gmail, yahoo.com, etc.
  • Track record managing large customer databases to drive revenue and retention and solid understanding of customer relationship management
  • Familiarity with push marketing communication platforms a bonus
