PeopleAdmin is looking for a Director of Engineering & Development in Austin, TX. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the Director of Engineering & Development will have responsibility for managing engineering, quality assurance, and architecture group. Primary responsibilities will be to deliver a scalable and high quality SaaS product suite for rapid customer adoption. A strong technical acumen, technical leadership and passion are a must.

• Provide leadership and motivation to the team to sustain high levels of productivity and morale of engineering team

• Manage, technically mentor, inspire and continue to build an engineering organization of 20+ engineers who have strong experience with Java, RoR, and .Net.
• Manage the architect team to deliver scalable, well architected, highly available, test-driven, best practices based development framework that will increase developer productivity, quality and velocity of feature development
• Manage highly skilled QA team on quality deliverables for a release and focusing primarily on automation, performance and load testing

Partner for Success

• Provide technical leadership to engineers as well as be a thought leader to the management team
• Champion and drive best practices and processes in the team: coding standards, code-reviews, check-ins and builds, change management efforts, risk and issue tracking, bug triages, testing and releases
• Work with architecture group to Develop and drive the technology roadmap
• Collaborate with Product Management for product requirements, roadmap
• Work closely with Support team on customer critical issues, escalations and maintenance packs

Challenge the Status Quo

• Improve and implement agile development methodologies that will dramatically improve software quality, rapid development iterations designed to improve speed-to-market

Qualifications:

• 10+ years of software development experience, 5+ years of development leadership experience
• Demonstrate success leading complex software development organizations. Specific experience with SaaS product suite
• Demonstrated technical leadership and people management skills
• Extensive experience managing engineering team of sizes 25 or more, which includes architects. Experience managing QA team is preferred
• Extensive Experience in developing highly scalable applications using Java/J2EE technologies, and Oracle/SQLServer databases on Unix/Linux platforms. Ruby on Rails and MySQL experience is desired
• Good understanding of SaaS architecture and the deployment of highly available, scalable, and secure applications within a cloud production environment. Exposure to Amazon Cloud would be plus
• Extensive experience with agile and test-driven development processes
• Extensive hands-on experience in driving/leading efforts in system performance modeling, capacity planning, testing, performance tuning, optimization and scalability of products
• Strong documentation and communication skills with the ability to effectively influence requirements, and designs at different levels of abstraction and communicate to both technical and non-technical audiences
