HomeAway seeks to hire a Global Risk Analyst for its Fraud & Payments division. HomeAway’s top strategic priority is to transition as much of its global marketplace, to the security of an e-commerce enabled platform. HomeAway Payments oversees all credit card and other electronic payments processed through HomeAway’s secure, hosted checkout. The Risk Management Group at HomeAway is responsible for establishing global technology, policy and people tactics and strategies to help build the most trusted global vacation rental marketplace. The Global Risk Analyst will play a crucial role in establishing these techniques and strategies.

The Global Risk Analyst will be responsible for understanding the company’s risk profile, identifying and assessing key components of risk, analyzing key trends in customer behavior contributing to risk, and continuously improving business and operational rules to mitigate and respond to risk. If you are a quantitative-minded analyst with strong experience in rules-based predictive analytics and risk strategy development, have an ability to work with large and complex datasets, can process and understand Big Data, fraud risk tools and technologies, and want to test your analytical skills, apply with HomeAway, the largest and fastest growing global vacation rental marketplace.

This position will report directly into the Global Head of Risk Management & Operations.

Job responsibilities

  • Partner with Development and Data Warehouse Engineering teams to define data requirements
  • Extract large amounts of data built on an MS-SQL environment using T-SQL or PL-SQL
  • Cleanse, Normalize, Derive, Calculate data and define multiple data structures for aggregated analysis & reporting
  • Identify Key Data Attributes that have a higher correlation to predicting fraudulent/risky behavior
  • Develop models for Predictive Analytics and Inference
  • Develop a Score based Risk Model
  • Develop hypothesis and demonstrate key customer trends contributing to fraud and risk
  • Analyze and continuously improve effectiveness of business and operational rules to identify and mitigate Risk
  • Create reporting for Executive Management and other key stakeholders

Job requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a highly quantitative field(Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Mathematics, or other quantitatively-oriented degree); Master’s degree would be a plus
  • 5 years related experience in predictive analytics and risk strategy development with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience
  • 4+ years in advanced modeling, statistic analysis is with a financial institution, bank or an e-commerce organization
  • Demonstrated advanced analytical capabilities in risk modeling, analysis, and rules based decisioning
  • Knowledge of Data Clustering/Modeling algorithms and application thereof in the Risk evaluation of online events and transactions
  • Demonstrated track record of creating predictive alert mechanisms that help implement preventative risk management rules, processes and methods
  • A good understanding of common and creative techniques used by fraudsters to exploit financial systems/payment systems and e-commerce processes
  • Strong problem solving skills in all areas of risk management: modeling, rules setting, response to observed risk exposure, operations improvement
  • Strong Data Mining skills, with ability to conduct extensive data research and handle large datasets
  • Proven experience working in fast-paced environment with ever-changing demands
  • Experience in implementing a decision engine or a fraud detection tool
  • Experience in managing projects and tasks with cross-functional teams and vendors in multiple geographical areas
