At Robots and Pencils, we’re continuing to grow and are looking for a Java Developer to join our team for a three month engagement!

Who you are:

You love to create and have a strong desire to learn.  Your code is next to none--well designed, testable and efficient. And on top of this, you find joy in contributing to all phases in the development life cycle.

You’re also diligent about meeting allocated budgets and can work within time constraints, but you will never sacrifice quality. You are independent, but you’re also comfortable working in cross-functional teams.

You have excellent communications skills and can share insights and expectations with stakeholders, clients, team members and various levels of management.

What you’ll do

  • Work on client products as well as our own products, delivering first-class software.

  • Build out mobile APIs and web applications for mobile and browser clients.

  • Peer review other team members’ code, and learn and adapt from peer review of your own code.

  • Program according to project plans and work in cross-functional teams to plan versions and sprints.

  • Test according to predetermined test plans.

  • Support sales and project managers with technical insights, leading to the creation of budgets and schedules for projects.

  • Collaborate with our Pencils (designers) to create idiomatic interfaces.

Desired skills and experience

  • Degree in Computer Sciences or Software Engineering.

  • 5+ years of experience in Java software development.

  • High level working knowledge of microservice architecture, JPA/Hibernate and Spring.

  • Experience in building public and internal REST APIs.

  • Understanding of rule engines, event processing and real-time data analysis.

  • Deep understanding of software security practices.

  • Working knowledge of Jira, Confluence, Jenkins and Git.

  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with various team members across multiple locations.

  • Background or experience in the banking or financial industry not required but considered an asset.

Work perks

  • Working alongside smart, talented people who will push you and help you grow.

  • Working for amazing clients, including media giants, F500 and FTSE500, and top educational institutions.

  • A great and flexible work environment.

About Robots and Pencils

Robots and Pencils is a digital innovation agency companies engage to create what's next. Trusted by some of the world's best brands, we help our clients use mobile, web and frontier technologies to transform their businesses.

In 2009, we created Robots and Pencils with the then-contrarian view that mobile would be more transformative than the Internet. Today, our thinking is rooted in the belief that, in the age of unprecedented technology acceleration, maintaining a competitive advantage requires new strategies and a focus on innovation.

Our approach has been to create a company designed to follow the talent, allowing us to amass an unfair share of hyper-skilled people who call
Robots and Pencils home.  A team of people who not only develop
innovative solutions to transform businesses, but also create
products that have been previously inconceivable.
