 Position Summary:
 
The day–to-day tasks of a Project Engineering Manager is to lead a book of integration needs within a functional operational area of expertise. The Manager will be accountable for a set of Integration type queues supporting clients in pre-sale, implementation, and post-implementation stages of athenaNet. The Manager will be responsible for driving the Integration Project through the sequential stages of; Scope, Build, Unit Testing, End User Testing, and Go-live Support.  This is done by holding working sessions with our clients or leading status calls to ensure the integration questions are answered & we hit our targets for each milestone.  The Manager will coordinate & align work with their peers & leadership (other Managers & Associates of Integration Projects).  The Manager will report directly to a Sr. Manager of Client Integration – Project Engineering.     


Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
 
65%   Lead Integration Projects while developing and adding value to the athenistas around them.
  •  The Manager will participate in the scoping, assignment, and escalation of projects in their functional areas.
  • Oversight of specific queues of work assigned to a queue of Integration types: Scoping of new projects; Assignment of new projects; Provide escalation support on projects; Administrative/operational reporting for transparency; Communication of opportunities for improvement; Continual participating in process improvement initiatives to support our team and individual objectives & key results.
  •  The Manager is responsible for the process alignment within their area of assignment. 
  • Maintain or coach a bench of talented athenistas through direct or indirect reporting relationships by challenging peers to deliver to their highest potential. Providing performance management that is well communicated with timely feedback to ensure expectations are properly set and communicated as soon as possible.
  • Understand and embody the vision of how we engineer top notch integrations & deliver service excellence to our clients
  • Follow, role model, and monitor processes to ensure they’re up to date & effective for our team & stakeholders. Make changes for the better which are well communicated to all stakeholders.
 
20%  Consultation
  • The consultation involves understanding the business use case then clarifying and explaining intended use of the functionality within our systems & how our integration capabilities can be implemented to solve their need.
  • Perform scoping and engineering of integration needs; ensuring effort is being appropriately measured, expectations are communicated, and existing solutions are used to create win-win solutions.
  •  The Manager will be responsible for communicating & owning the processes used to bring a project from Scope to Go-live.  This may involve supporting their own work and their teammates so that projects reach full resolution and successful installation.  We work as a team to win!
 
 
15%    Collaboration 
 
  • Collaborate with and maintain effective relationships with other departments to ensure the successful completion of our work while maintaining a high-level of client satisfaction
  • Maintain existing relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Work with the Sr. Manager of Client Integration – Project Engineering to recruit & hire and develop talent + align our existing talent with their abilities & talents against our new or existing suite of integrations.
  • Support the Sr. Manager of Client Integration – Project Engineering in identified key initiatives for future growth & enhancement
     
Education, Experience, & Skills Required:
  • Excellent client-facing skills and the ability to simultaneously champion the cause of the client and serve as an athenahealth advocate
  • Very strong aptitude to learn & teach technical & non-technical subject matter
  • Proficiency in SQL & experience working within healthcare using HL7 or APIs is a PLUS
  • Maniacal attention to detail & passion for process design and improvement
  • Healthcare, medical group operations and/or medical billing experience or knowledge preferred or demonstrated ability to learn new industry
  • Aptitude for reengineering processes, tools and role(s) to improve scalability, efficiency and quality
  • Mastery of the following Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, PPT, and Word; proficiency and ability to learn the use of Access and Visio.
  • Bachelor degree required, Master’s degree preferred
  • 5+ years of project management or integration engineering experience; 3+ years of experience working within operations & proven ability to coordinate with technical (dev leads) and non-technical stakeholders (business leads); 2+ years of experience managing individuals directly or indirectly in a team environment;

  • Ability to keep track of numerous detail-intensive, interdependent tasks and ensure their accurate completion
  •  Willing/excited to work in a fast-paced, but sometimes intense, rapidly expanding company
  • Ability to speak with a high level understanding of the Athena services lines and of the organization’s responsibility for delivering on them. Demonstrated ability of speaking with technical professionals & translating technical details into layman terms
  • Demonstrated ability to role model effective relationship building across departmental and company lines, hold difficult conversations with clients and internal stakeholders and to present and effectively communicate with C-level executives internally, with clients, and service partners
  • Demonstrated ability to keep leadership informed through proper communication of issues, risks, and blockers to our work, teams, or clients being successful.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach team members in the performance of their duties
  • Demonstrated ability to listen to employees’ assumptions about the culture; supporting initiatives in line with the culture and making positive changes as needed
