Managing Editor

OutboundEngine, the leading done-for-you marketing automation service, is seeking a Managing Editor to oversee the development of high-impact marketing campaigns for our small business customers. We have $33.8M in venture funding, over 10,000 customers on our platform, and a total audience of over 5 million American consumers and we need an editorial leader who can manage a team of professional writers and editors to deliver engaging content on a consistent basis.

Founded in 2012, OutboundEngine automates email and social media marketing for businesses of all sizes by combining a simple, easy-to-use marketing automation platform with professionally written and beautifully designed content. Our clients spend less time on marketing and more time serving their customers, and their customers get valuable content that they’re excited to engage with.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead, motivate and grow a team of staff editors and freelance writers
  • Collaborate with your team and other stakeholders to develop email and social media editorial calendars for 18 unique sets of content
  • Shepherd each piece of content through our existing editorial process, from assignment to writers all the way through final QA in our proprietary app
  • Ensure that all content meets our editorial standards, has the appropriate voice for the audience we’re writing for and ships on time
  • Optimize our editorial workflow: recommend changes to process, software or other components to get work done more efficiently
  • Work with our Customer Success team to understand customer content concerns and address them with changes to specific campaigns and/or our editorial strategy as a whole
  • Establish your team as an important internal customer of our app and spec out changes that make your work more efficient and/or produce better results for our customers
  • Play a leadership role in developing editorial strategy and processes when we want to tackle a new industry or launch a new type of written content
  • Recruit and develop contributing writers

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field
  • 8+ years of professional writing/editing experience
  • 2+ years of management experience
  • Expertise editing to AP guidelines
  • History of success in a newsroom or other deadline-driven environment
  • Experience in 2+ web-based CMS systems
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects, prioritize and stay focused on the most important things
  • Familiarity with email and social media performance metrics a plus
