Senior Front-End Engineer

Austin, TX

What others fear, you embrace: the browser is your home, your playground, your arena. Your HTML is semantic, your JavaScript is unobtrusive, and even your CSS is somehow elegant. You get anxious when the dev tools window is closed, though you can’t say exactly why. You may not know the CSS points exactly off the top of your head, but you know they exist. Delighting users is your objective and fanatical attention to detail is your weapon.

Signpost is making it easier for local businesses to find new customers and keep them coming back. Our software-as-a-service platform automates the myriad tasks required to effectively market a small business online, freeing owners to focus on what they do best. We’re backed by some of the smartest investors out there, and our product is taking off, being used by thousands of businesses nationwide.

Our engineering team is also growing rapidly and we’re looking for an experienced front-end engineer to contribute to - and potentially lead - the development of world-class user interfaces for mobile and desktop web. If you’re ready to join an outstanding and passionate team of engineers - not brogrammers - at a fast-moving startup where you can learn, grow, and have real technical ownership, you’ve come to the right place.

We’ll expect you to:

  • Work with designers, product managers, and backend engineers to craft user experiences that work flawlessly across all major desktop and mobile browsers
  • Work with test engineers to identify UI defects and drive them to zero
  • Create clean, semantic HTML and well-structured CSS using Sass
  • Write JavaScript for modern browsers that is reliable, reusable, and has 100% test coverage
  • Assist and mentor junior front-end engineers, leading them to excellence
  • Keep abreast of front-end development techniques and technologies
  • Participate in feature spec reviews and provide effort estimates
  • Experience building assets for production using Grunt, Gulp or other automation tools

You should:

  • Have a solid mastery of standards based, hand coded HTML5/CSS3/JavaScript
  • Be as comfortable in JavaScript as you are in HTML/CSS
  • Have experience with client-side frameworks such as React or AngularJS
  • Have outstanding attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Thrive in a startup environment - where we’re making it up as we go
  • Want to build a great product and love your job
  • Be a team player with a can-do attitude

We would love you to:

  • Have an unquenchable thirst for new knowledge
  • Always be striving to take your skills to the next level
  • Be active in the open source community (send us your GitHub handle or tech blog)
  • Have experience with or a basic understanding of back-end development
