Position Overview

uShip is currently undergoing an exciting transformation in our Design department. We are seeking strong UX/Interaction Designers who are critical systems thinkers, problem solvers, and collaborators. The UX/Interaction Designer will work with key stakeholders, product teams, and the Experience team to translate business requirements, user needs, and technical capabilities into designs that are simple, intuitive, and created with a user-centered focus.

 

Responsibilities

  • Participate as a contributor to an interdisciplinary team that includes creative leadership, designers, scrum, product managers, software developers, and QA
  • Participate in product ideation and conceptual development using an iterative, user-centered design process
  • Participate in design research, including generative user research (observational studies, customer interviews) and usability/validation testing
  • Communicate research findings, conceptual ideas, detailed design, and design rationale, both verbally and visually
  • Produce scenarios, hero flows, design prototypes, design specifications, motion graphics, and animation effects
  • Apply patterns from the uShip design language system in day-to-day design work. Maintain and extend the system as needed throughout this process.
  • Produce information architectures, wireframes, and design specifications
  • Have a solid understanding of visual design principles and best practices as it relates to visually communicating product function and brand identity, the design and production of screen layouts, color palettes, typography, user interface elements, and icons
  • Work closely with development teams to ensure that design specifications are implemented as intended
  • Plan, prioritize, and coordinate design tasks and execution of design deliverables
  • Manage the design process, drive decisions, track issues, and assist in estimating resource needs and schedules
  • Effectively lead and facilitate brainstorming sessions and other creative workshops
  • Provide mentorship and design guidance to junior designers

Job Requirements

  • At least three years of professional digital design experience that encompasses product design, e-commerce applications, and responsive web design
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Computer Interaction, Information Design, Graphic Design, or a related design or behavioral science discipline
  • Strong and flexible skills in interaction (UX) design and visual (UI) design
  • In-depth knowledge of user interface design processes and methodology, particularly as applied to Web- and mobile- based e-commerce applications
  • Up-to-date with current interaction and visual trends across touchpoints (web, mobile, etc.)
  • Proficient with current design and prototyping tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch, Invision, After Effects, Keynote
  • Experience designing motion graphics with tools such as After Effects a plus
  • Familiarity with capabilities and limitations of current Web technologies such as HTML, JavaScript, and CSS
  • Excellent communication, organization, and teamwork skills. Must be able to work both on a team and independently.
  • Ability to articulate a point of view with respect to design decisions or options and communicate rationale influencing those decisions
  • Effective time management skills – ability to juggle multiple projects at once and ability to confidently estimate time required for specific tasks
  • Strong project and people management skills. Must be able to function as a project leader as well as an individual contributor.
  • Articulate how a singular design solution fits into an overall narrative or meets an unmet user or business need
  • Team leadership skills, including the ability to mentor and manage junior designers
  • Flexible design skills that bridge disciplines (interaction to visual design and vice versa) and ability to provide cross-discipline design critique
  • Great attention to detail throughout the design process and into the QA process as designs make it through the development cycle
  • System design skills, demonstrating the ability to define, refine, apply, and extend a design system
