An Advanced WordPress Developer (AWD) at WP Engine implements WordPress digital experiences which assist new customers with discovering, learning about, and purchasing WP Engine's services and helps existing customers use WP Engine's services more effectively. When we do this really well, our new and existing customers have a smooth and delightful experience with WP Engine.

AWDs typically interact with our project management, design, advertising, and branding teams to help create new and improve existing digital experiences on WP Engine. Projects worked on with these teams are designed to help promote growth, product adoption, and education within the WP Engine ecosystem.

AWDs may also interact with certain WordPress technology partners for prototyping and testing new solutions.

• Create custom advanced WordPress plugins to add functionality to WP Engine's digital experiences (e.g. wpengine.com, torquemag.io, velocitize.com, wpengine.careers, etc.).
• Code custom WordPress themes across a variety of web properties.
• Build custom applications to support product, marketing, and analytic initiatives.
• Build prototypes of integrations with various WordPress technologies.
• Optimize WordPress properties for performance and security.
• Provide Subject-Matter-Expert support for various internal content publishing and partnership efforts.

Advanced Knowledge: You should have advanced skills in PHP, MySQL, SASS, JavaScript, REST APIs, GIT, Google Analytics/Tag Manager implementations, and SSL in order to successfully complete tasks for marketing, design, and business stakeholders.

Special Knowledge (preferred, not required): In order to up to speed faster in our technology stack and make a quick impact on the velocity of the Web Team it is helpful if you have experience with the Genesis Framework, WP-CLI, Object Oriented Programming, Atomic Design Framework (or similar), CSS standards (BEM), React, and continuous integration & testing. Experience with third party CRO and Personalization platforms that dynamically inject remotely hosted snippets onto sites (e.g. Optimizely, VWO, GetSmartContent) preferred.

Listening & Organization: In order to have a smooth interaction with our team you should have extensive experience with agile Project Management workflows (e.g. SCRUM, KanBan), excellent communication skills, excellent code documentation skills, and have a high aptitude for organization.

• 4+ years of advanced WordPress development experience working in an environment where you had to solve a variety of complex technical and business challenges.
• Experience freelancing or working in an agency environment is a plus.
• Extensive involvement in the WordPress and web development communities either through participation or thought leadership (preferred).
