Job Summary:
The Software Development Manager is critical to our organization to ensure that we deliver exceptionally high quality software releases to our customer both on-time and on-budget. He or she will help define both the strategy and operational execution for our developers while driving project initiatives that deliver on the Phunware vision.
Specifically, the Software Development Manager will lead a technical team of 5-10 developers with responsibility for sprint planning, daily developer coordination and ultimately delivering a wide array of Engineering initiatives focused specifically on our web portal. He/she will be working with various teams across the Engineering organization to create and manage all portal related aspects of our products.
The ideal candidate should have a passion for technology and leadership, a strong track record for delivering highly technical projects on time and genuinely enjoy working with internal teams across the Phunware organization.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and run daily meetings with developers to review progress, identify critical path items, and work towards resolution of those items
- Highly technical, will need to jump into details and do hands-on coding when required
- Play instrumental role in drawing technical architecture for features, work with product to understand requirements
- Ability to efficiently allocate resources and ensure teams have the appropriate direction at all times to remain on track to our customer commitments and deadlines
- Track and report status of all projects during weekly program management update meetings; where any risk may exist, proactively build, communicate and lead recovery actions
- Provide leadership and guidance to coach, motivate and lead team members to their optimum performance levels; actively engage in their career development
Qualifications:
- B. Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
- 2+ years of project management experience
- 2+ years of experience managing and leading software development teams
- 3-5 years of hands on experience in Java, J2EE, Spring technologies
- Experience with REST API frameworks, SQL.
- Experience managing on-shore and off-shore team members
- Consistent track record for delivering commitments on-time and with minimal supervision
- Exceptional technical leadership skills
- Problem solving and analytical skills relating to technical challenges
- Experience leading web based software development teams using open source frameworks
- Strong communication skills – both verbal and written
- Extremely comfortable holding both internal and external stakeholders accountable at multiple grade levels
- Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail
- Strong work ethic
Desirable:
- MBA or M.S Degree in Computer Science or Engineering
- Experience in a creative environment with designers and artists
- Experience with Agile, Waterfall and traditional software development methodologies
- Experience with JIRA and other Agile software development tools
- Experience with architecting highly scalable software systems
