Riding the rising wave of demand for delivery services in an ever-growing city, Dropoff Inc. launched in Austin this week, introducing a same-day service aimed directly at businesses.

Dropoff raised a $1.85M round of funding in May from Austin Ventures LP, Silverton Partners, Mucker Capital and several angel investors. Its goal, says CEO and co-founder Sean Spector, is to work with businesses like law firms and health care companies that need rapid local delivery of items like lab services and legal documents. It's been beta testing its service offering with a few dozen local companies in the lead-up to this week's launch.

"We're excited to have launched in Austin (which is also our headquarters) today," Spector said Wednesday. "We chose Austin because it's a great town with lots of talent and a tech savvy audience. It's been an excellent test market for us, and during our beta phase we've been able to learn very quickly and at a reasonable cost and scale."

As for Dropoff's plans for expansion, Spector said, "Starting today we're available in Austin and surrounding areas, but plan to expand to other metropolitan areas soon. Our goal is to become the national leader for courier and same-day delivery for businesses."

Spector and his family lived in Austin in the late 90s, he said, and moved back in 2012. Co-founders include CTO Christian Carollo, CMO Ted Hong and CFO Jason Klann.

The company, founded in December 2013, has 30 employees.
