Don’t limit your summer planning to vacations and river floats. The warmest quarter of the year marks a great time to ignite your job search as droves of Austin tech companies look to expand their teams.

Whether you classify as entry, mid or senior level, the jobs are out there. To make it a wee bit easier for you, we’ve dug up five companies hiring now with killer perks and — more important — a workplace where you can further your career.

NSS labs june.jpg

What they do: While cybersecurity threats and breaches rise, so do the number of solutions designed to protect consumer and enterprise data. NSS Labs independently tests and researches these products to provide clients with information that can expose where the highest levels of threats reside and how best to protect against hacks. Their portfolio of clients includes Intel, Accenture and Goldman Sachs.

Why you want to work here: We’ll get into the perks in a second, but one of the best reasons to join NSS Labs involves the job itself. Surrounded by a team of talented individuals, you’ll have the opportunity to develop cutting-edge technology shaping the tests and proving the efficacies of today’s cybersecurity solutions. Now for the perks: NSS Labs offers unlimited PTO, a kilt-friendly and casual dress policy, all-you-can-drink Mountain Dew and food forever.

A note from HR: “The cybersecurity field is white hot and impacts everyone in a major way,” said TyAnn Osborn, VP of HR. “ If you want to work on tools and processes that shape and influence the security market, then take a look at NSS Labs. It’s a given that technical ability and good team skills are a must-have. We also look for a spark of passion, that insatiable curiosity that drives you to go above and beyond to figure things out, to make the complex simple and to ultimately make the world a safer place.”

modernize june.jpg

What they do: Turning that abode of yours into an eco-friendly smart home gets way easier with Modernize’s online services. Their platform connects homeowners with contractors specializing in energy-efficient roofing, heating and cooling systems, windows and solar technology. Clients can receive free cost estimates, schedule appointments and request customized quotes through Modernize. Since the company’s 2005 launch, they’ve fulfilled over two million projects.

Why you want to work here: Modernize’s office is in one of downtown Austin’s oldest historical buildings, the Bosch Hogg Building. It’s on the first floor, but employees still get to enjoy some of that famous Texas sunshine from their rooftop deck — complete with a hammock. Other perks include team events such as pizza-eating contests, party barge outings, fitness challenges and beer pong tournaments, plus flexible PTO and weekly catered lunches. And if you’re a musician, you’ll get to play music in the office’s former bank vault, which the team converted to a jam room.

A note from leadership: "You owe it to yourself to make your daily work experience as interesting as possible. Modernize helps make that happen,” said Mike Grossman, VP of sales and account management. "We provide intensive, top-tier training and seek to graduate our front-line team members into new roles, fast. Modernize folks love spending time together after 5 p.m. You'll get a network of people that you'll stay in touch with both personally and professionally when the day comes that you're a Modernize alumni. Swing by for happy hour on our deck or a game of foosball in our real former bank vault.”

digital pharmacist june.jpg

What they do: Digital Pharmacist makes it possible for patients to order their prescriptions with text, web, mobile and voice solutions. To date, their platform supports more than four million patients from over 6,000 pharmacies and includes marketing automation tools and workflow management integrations.

Why you want to work here: With exponential growth over the last year, Digital Pharmacist continues to receive awards for its innovation in the health tech community. Just last week, the Austin Chamber of Commerce recognized the startup as a 2017 A-List recipient. Plus the pudding is in the perks. All employees can take advantage of free classes at OrangeTheory, 401(k) plans and breakfast taco Tuesdays, weekly Wednesday catered lunches, stock options and competitive medical, dental and vision benefits.

A note from HR: “We are seeking passionate, driven and highly intelligent team members at Digital Pharmacist,” said Katie Smith, HR manager. “A person's story is very important here: Why did you choose your field? What motivates you? How do you separate yourself from others? These things help us understand how someone could operate as a corporate citizen in our environment. In addition, it demonstrates an individual's willingness to embrace their individuality. That is something we deeply value in our culture; we want colleagues who stand out and don't just ‘fit in.’”

praecipio june.jpg

What they do: Praecipio consultants are the Atlassian experts. They partner with clients, providing tailored solutions and custom implementations, helping clients work stronger and more efficiently with Atlassian’s suite of tools. Since 2006, they’ve supported companies from a variety of industries including aerospace, retail, gaming, biomedical and security.

Why you want to work here: Meetings take on new meaning with the Praecipio team. With an office a short walk from the lake, meetings tend to mean wakeboarding below the Pennybacker Bridge. The team also regularly hosts happy hours on top of their annual company retreat. Plus under their “VTO” policy, all Praecipio employees receive three paid days off to volunteer as part of their Pledge 1% commitment.

A note from the team: “As Atlassian Solution Partners, we pride ourselves in serving our clients ranging from small startups to Fortune 20 and Global Fortune 10 companies with best-in-class ITSM, Business Process and SDLC solutions. We're a growing, fast-paced consulting firm and offer a competitive compensation and benefits package with a fun, positive learning environment.”

ownlocal team photo june.jpg

What they do: OwnLocal extracts the content from existing print, TV, radio and directory ads and automatically transforms it into digital campaigns. Launched in 2010, OwnLocal now supports more than 3,000 local media companies and helps over 80,000 small and medium-size businesses extend their advertorial reach.

Why you want to work here: It’s not all pizza and tacos (not that there is anything wrong with that). OwnLocal’s daily catered lunches consist of health-conscious choices to complement their employee-wide wellness initiatives. They also offer unlimited time off to ensure you maintain that work-life balance, and if you need to get around town they give free Car2Go memberships.

A note from the product boss: “OwnLocal really stands out among the Austin tech startups I’ve encountered and sets the bar higher when it comes to the employee experience,” said Director of Product Jonathan Dawe. “That clear commitment to the company’s culture and values only added to what I see as the biggest, most interesting product opportunity right now in Austin.”
