As patient engagement is a primary goal of major health care reform initiatives, patients will more frequently engage with their healthcare team and manage their disease states with the use of technology, including mobile devices. Developing appropriate patient-focused content is a key strategy to enhance patient engagement with the healthcare team, improve clinical outcomes, and increase patient satisfaction.
Position Summary:

The Patient Engagement Clinical Content Editor will leverage their clinical background and experience to create patient and client facing content for both population health and patient care management initiatives. In this role, the editor will collaborate across teams to strategically design and develop or curate care plans, patient education materials, and other types of content as well as evaluate how that content improves patient engagement and supports effective population health campaigns.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

50% [Content Development]

  • Develop, edit, and/or review clinical care plan content for key disease states and client focused areas (athenaWell or Population Health)
  • Develop, edit, and/or review patient educational content for care plans (athenaWell or Population Health)
  • Translate clinical information into an engaging patient and client experience
  • Update and revise clinical content based on client needs to improve quality outcomes and patient engagement
  • Partner with clients to develop and customize care plan content when clinically appropriate
  • Manage patient engagement clinical projects
  • Serve as clinical consultant for Epocrates Patient Literature Library as needed

40% [Support Teams and Clients]

  • Work cross-functionally with internal athenahealth teams to ensure successful patient engagement and client performance management experience. Serve as a liaison between Medical Information, athenaWell, and Population Health.
  • Build strong relationships with internal teams and client stakeholders
  • Ensure client and athenahealth are meeting agreed upon deadlines and milestones

10% [Content Testing and Iteration]

  • Support user test plans for patient engagement
  • Continuously improve content quality and patient engagement

Education, Experience, & Skills Required:

  • An RN, NP, PA, or other advanced practice healthcare degree or higher
  • Active professional licensure (valid in any state)
  • Previous clinical experience (at least 3-5 years preferred)
  • Experience developing care plans and programs (preferred)
  • Medical editing/writing experience

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of an extended, cross-functional team
  • Demonstrate ability to quickly and positively adapt to change in a dynamic workplace

  • Strong organizational, time-management, and documentation skills
  • Ability to prioritize and to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, work across several project tasks simultaneously, meet deadlines, and communicate potential conflicts to manager
  • Ability to complete projects with tight deadlines and time constraints
  • Ability to learn and master new processes and tools
  • Working knowledge of and interest in mobile technology and user trends
  • Strong computer literacy and the comfort, ability, and desire to advance technically
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
