Job Summary

The Cloud Engineer will play a key role on SHI’s internal Product Team, focusing on designing, deploying, and automating cloud infrastructure in the Microsoft Azure public cloud. This role requires proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, automation scripting in Python, and containerization with Docker. The Cloud Engineer will work closely with development, DevOps, and security teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and cost-effective cloud-native solutions.
This position is required to report to the SHI Austin, TX office location as determined by SHI management.

Role Description

  • Design, deploy, and manage Azure-based cloud infrastructure with a focus on automation, scalability, and reliability.

  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using  Terraform. 

  • Automate provisioning, configuration, and operational tasks using  Python. 

  • Build and maintain Docker-based container environments, including image creation and orchestration support. 

  • Monitor infrastructure and applications, respond to incidents, and perform root cause analysis. 

  • Collaborate with software and DevOps teams to translate functional requirements into secure and scalable cloud solutions. 

  • Apply cloud security best practices and ensure compliance with governance and access controls. 

  • Maintain up-to-date documentation including architectural diagrams, automation workflows, and runbooks. 

  • Stay informed on Azure service updates and emerging tools related to automation, IaC, and containerization. 

Skill Level Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience. 

  • 2+ years of experience with Microsoft Azure, including core services like VMs, networking, storage, Key Vault, and Azure Monitor. 

  • 2+ years of experience writing Terraform modules and managing infrastructure via IaC pipelines. 

  • 2+ years of experience scripting in Python to automate infrastructure tasks and integrations. 

  • Hands-on experience with Docker, including image creation, optimization, and managing containerized applications. 

  • Understanding of Azure IAM, RBAC, and cloud security principles. 

  • Experience working with Git and CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions. 

  • Comfortable working in Agile/Scrum environments and contributing to sprint planning and backlog grooming. 

  • Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills. 

  • Azure certifications (e.g., AZ-104, AZ-204, AZ-305) are strongly preferred. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Kubernetes or Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS). 

  • Exposure to multi-cloud environments (e.g., AWS, GCP) is a plus. 

  • Experience with observability and monitoring tools (e.g., Azure Monitor, Datadog, Prometheus/Grafana). 

  • Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Chef, Puppet) is a bonus. 

The estimated annual pay range for this position is $100,000-$130,000, which includes a base salary. The compensation for this position is dependent on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location and, therefore, will vary from individual to individual. Benefits may include, but are not limited to, medical, vision, dental, 401K, and flexible spending.
