We're looking for a Senior Technical Writer specializing in APIs to join our Developer Relations documentation team and help us on our mission to provide developers the information they need to be successful - in real time. As a Senior Technical Writer on the Developer Relations team, you will be responsible for defining our documentation strategy, creating content of your own, and serving as an editor and mentor to other team members, making sure the content we produce follows the strategy, style, and architecture that we define.
Developer Relations at SailPoint serves to enable and inspire our external platform developers through the SailPoint Developer Community. These developers need access to the right resources to be successful, and those resources need to be readily available and easy to digest. This comes in the form of API documentation, guides, client libraries, example applications, code snippets, videos, and many other resources. These resources are proverbial links in the chain holding up successful B2B software platforms today. We want to create an open and interactive developer community where developers can share their feedback and sentiments, and SailPoint can quickly enact on that feedback to create a better product.
Responsibilities:

  • Define the documentation strategy for Developer Relations, including information architecture, style, contribution guidelines, and more.
  • Create and edit technical documentation for SailPoint's APIs, client libraries, and SDKs.
  • Lead and mentor developer advocates and cross-functional contributors to produce high quality documentation.
  • Create and describe sample code and applications to demonstrate various use cases of SailPoint's APIs.
  • Work closely with Product Managers to identify and scope documentation needs for new product features.
  • Collaborate with Engineers to ensure an accurate understanding of how the product works and reflect that understanding in our documentation.
  • Solicit stakeholder reviews and perform peer reviews of content produced by others
  • Verify accuracy of documentation prior to publishing and edit existing documentation for accuracy as needed.
  • Create additional media aimed at our developer audience, such as blog posts, talks, and videos.
  • Engage with the SailPoint developer community via social media and (post-COVID) in person to better understand their needs.
  • Understand our audience's various degrees of technical knowledge and ensure our documentation can meet everyone's needs.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of professional writing experience, preferably in the IT or cybersecurity sector, backed by a degree in English, computer science, or a related field
  • In depth knowledge of JSON, GIT, Open API specs
  • Experience with Markdown and/or structured and minimalist writing.
  • Experience with software development and a variety of APIs
  • Excellent collaboration & communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Proven ability to research unfamiliar subject matter and experiment with early prototypes
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, continuous delivery deployment environment

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Identity and Access Management (IAM) or security experience.
  • 5+ years industry experience in a technical role such as Developer Relations Engineer, Software Engineer, API Product Manager, API Documentation Specialist, Developer Support Engineer, Solutions Engineer, etc.
  • Direct experience engaging with external developers (e.g. through open source projects, working in Developer Relations, conducting API user research, or similar) is a plus
  • Strong preference given to candidates with experience guiding users through the process of integrating systems using config files, REST APIs, and mapping attributes
  • Experience following Agile methodologies & using issue tracking tools
  • Embrace a user-centric approach to focus on what the customer needs, not what the system does
  • Familiarity with content strategy and information architecture
  • Comfortable working asynchronously with remote teams across multiple time zones
  • Experience designing APIs is a plus
