ABOUT THE ROLE


The Actuarial Consultant will have a lead role in Small Group ACA Line of Business pricing, risk management, strategy decisions and block management. Provide additional support on Large Group and ASO employer products.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work in tandem with the Chief Actuary, Small Group ACA Managers and Line of Business and have lead responsibility for project work related to state and regional ACA pricing, experience analysis, product strategy and related items
  • Support development of forecasting models, projections and relevant information to inform C-Level business decisions on states for which they are responsible
  • Support the team through modeling, market analysis and experience to inform company growth initiatives;
  • Support monthly reserve levels for responsible state commercial products
  • Perform ad-hoc data analysis
  • Lead responsibility for rate filings and pricing work
  • Support product and line of business strategy working with LOB leadership
  • Manage work of supporting actuarial staff and data analyst to achieve work deliverables
  • Individual contributor and SME for their respective line of business/states, supporting strategy and plan design discussions, market positioning and regulatory landscape

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor’s degree required in Math, Statistics, Economics, Actuarial Science, or a related field is required
  • Five (5) or more years of experience working with commercial ACA products is required
  • Associate of the Society of Actuaries or greater required
  • Meets or exceeds continuing educations requirements for SOA and Academy required
  • Understanding of healthcare claims data required

PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Office products
  • Experience with forecasting, modeling, and SQL or SAS
  • Intermediate to expert level knowledge of healthcare pricing, Small Group ACA, Large Group and/or Self Funded
  • Understanding of company practices related to management of member populations for purposes of estimating risk
  • Produce, understand, and interpret internal and external analysis and reports; provide effective technical and non-technical support to internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills and ability to meet with C-Level leadership on pricing and plan related topics

LICENSURES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Associateship or greater in the Society of Actuaries or commensurate year of experience
