Actuarial Consultant – Individual ACA
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Actuarial Consultant will have a lead pricing role in Individual ACA Line of Business pricing, risk management, strategic decision making, and block management. The Actuarial Consultant will be responsible for a defined set of states and will be the company’s actuarial subject matter expert for those states.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop premiums and all actuarial components of the Individual ACA rate filings
- Candidate must have a complete understanding of Individual ACA rate development and experience developing sound premiums, populating the URRT, and creating URR memorandums
- Be qualified to co-sign their states’ experience rated filings
- Individual contributor and SME for their respective line of business/state, support strategy and plan design discussions, understand market dynamics and positioning, and under each state’s respective regulatory landscape
- Work in tandem with the Chief Actuary, Commercial ACA Director, and other managers to ensure company’s risk position is clearly communicated to key stakeholders
- Work with external consulting firm to develop manually rated filings and ad hoc analyses
- Manage your own project timelines and work of supporting staff, meet all deadlines, and produce high quality deliverables
- Ancillary projects, such as developing an internal pricing calculator, modeling provider contracts, leading ad hoc data analyses, and creating reporting packages for management
- Mentor junior members of the team’s staff
- Foster a culture of peer review, mentorship, and learning
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
- A Bachelor’s degree required in Math, Statistics, Economics, Actuarial Science, or a related field is required
- Four (4) or more years of experience working with commercial ACA products is required
- Minimum of one (1) year experience with individual ACA rate filings is required
- Associate of the Society of Actuaries or greater required
- Meets or exceeds continuing educations requirements for SOA and the Academy to sign filings
- Understanding of healthcare claims data
- Prior experience managing others is preferred but not required
PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Office products
- Experience with forecasting, modeling, and SQL
- Expert level knowledge of healthcare pricing for ACA Individual products
- Self-starter with ability to manage projects with little to no direction. Sense of ownership and responsibility is required
- Strong communication skills and ability to meet with C-Suite leadership on pricing and plan related topics
- Project management skills and attention to detail
LICENSURES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Associateship or greater in the Society of Actuaries or commensurate years of experience required.
