Reporting directly to the Vice President, Sourcing and Product Development, this person will be responsible for evolving and evangelizing our sourcing process, and through the capabilities of this center of excellence, deliver enhanced business outcomes and enable sourcing process excellence. This leader will oversee the construction and oversight of a center of excellence comprised of specific subject matter experts all designed to complement the capabilities of our Sourcing function. Accountable for the timely performance of the sourcing calendar of events, tracking and reporting on key sourcing performance metrics, leading a data driven approach to the identification of risks and opportunities to enable project prioritization, and recruiting and development of subject matter expertise in the areas of e-auctions / e-sourcing, financial valuation and documentation management. This leader also oversees the development of our up-stream procurement function currently covering printed packaging procurement. Partners closely with the Sourcing Leadership team and our embedded Finance resource to set strategy, and support execution of outcomes. Actively models and reinforces the Whole Foods Market mission, values and culture.Responsibilities: ​

  • Team Development
    • Shape the vision for the buildout of this functional center of excellence
    • Lead recruiting efforts to secure the resources needed to populate the subject matter experts in the areas of e-auctions / e-sourcing, financial valuation, and sourcing process / documentation management
    • Facilitate the development and execution of our initial 3-year sourcing calendar cycle
    • Support the activation of our packaging procurement function
  • Team Leadership
    • Lead a team of 4 Team Members comprised of Subject Matter Experts
    • Hire, develop and coach team capabilities to support existing requirements and enable career development
    • Cultivate a service orientation within the team to ensure team energy and outputs are harmonized with the business priorities and execution of priorities with urgency
    • Nurture a high functioning relational stance with internal stakeholders as needed to facilitate the successful execution of team responsibilities
    • Embody the Whole Foods Market Leadership Principals, especially servant leadership
    • Seeks continual improvement in Operational Excellence (Raises the bar) by identifying and pursuing process improvements that will benefit the EB team
    • Responsible for creating the environment for team actualization by protecting time for strategic thinking, setting boundaries, removing roadblocks, empowering decision making within the team, celebrating risk-taking, and using failure as a needed opportunity for personal growth
  • Business Performance Responsibilities
    • Responsible for the oversight and timeliness of the Sourcing Calendar
    • Leveraging data to drive prioritization of our Sourcing Calendar events to enhance the strategic importance of our sourcing outcomes
    • Collection and adherence to our Sourcing Process including documentation to create institutional knowledge for our broader business, enhancing our resiliency and business continuity
    • Oversee Key Sourcing Performance Metrics for team and leadership
    • Support Leadership progress reporting and updates on our Sourcing team process enhancements and initiatives
    • Responsible for cultivation of appropriate internal and external key stakeholder relationships to enable team goals
    • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree and 8 or more years' relevant experience in Sourcing as both a practitioner and leading process and execution oversight
  • 3 or more years of leadership experience
  • Established track record of defining solutions and building trusted relationships
  • Passion for continuous learning and growth
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a team of direct reports.
  • A strong track record of bringing a strategy to life.
  • Models an organized and systematic approach to work and the ability to prioritize and delegate responsibilities.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal; must be comfortable presenting and sharing information.
  • A passion for Whole Foods Market's purpose, values, principles, and strategic priorities.
  • This role location is at the company headquarters in Austin, TX.
