Whole Foods Market is looking for an experienced, talented, and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Principal Analyst for Competitive Intelligence. In this role the individual will be responsible for delivering insights on competitive forces by researching and analyzing retailer’s business performance data. The individual will build scalable solutions from ground-up, effectively navigating ambiguity and providing timely and accurate analysis to the business partners. This role will allow the individual to make a real impact on our business from day one and provide dynamic, innovative, and fast-paced environment to constantly build your skill set and address new challenges.

The right candidate is passionate about understanding the competitive landscape, analyzing grocery retailer business performance, and building partnerships across business teams to drive changes that add value to the business. The individual should have a strong foundation in retail merchandising, the ability to dive deep into complex pricing, promotions and assortment performance metrics and understand the business context behind the data, and continuously strive to find deeper insights. The individual will develop strategic insights and influence business and drive change across the Whole Foods Market.

The Principle Analyst is responsible to design various strategies to capture quality competitive intelligence from Grocery retailers. S(he) will be partnering with Merchandising Leaders to develop strategy, launch case studies, conduct deep analysis, and consistently articulate results.

Responsibilities: 

· Collaboration & Relationships 

o   Maintain close working relationship with Merchandising Leaders to collaborate on development of competitive strategy, competitor intelligence methodologies, and reporting mechanisms.  

· Communication  

o   Speak, provide presentations, and train Team Members on competitive strategy, value positioning and competitiveness. 

o   Manage regular updates to Merchandising and Marketing leaders on projects related to competitive positioning and strategies.  

o   Serve as a resource for Global and Regional Merchandizing Teams in competitive situations. 

o   Stay current with food, retail, market news and natural products trends.  Read popular and trade press widely.  

· Analytics and Reporting  

o   Gather retail pricing, assortment, promotion, and location data on competitors, leveraging third-party sources and primary research.   

o   Ability to self-serve data with programming skills (SQL, R, Python). 

o   Experience in a highly scalable, distributed environment preferred

o   Analyze data to provide competitive strategy, highlight opportunities and inform recommendations for adjustments.

Qualifications:  

·       Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, analytical business specialty or commensurate retail experience.  

·       5+ years of experience in Data Science, Business Analytics, Business Intelligence, or comparable research role, including use of business intelligence tools.  

·       5+ years of experience with SQL and relational databases (Redshift, Teradata, SQL Server, DB2, Oracle), with ability to write complex and highly-optimized queries.  

·       Proficient in a wide range of analytical, quantitative, and statistical techniques and tools to derive insights from large, complex data environments. 

·       Highly motivated to develop expertise in industry trends and the use of data and analytics to recommend better competitive positioning. 

·       Strong attention to detail, and excellent organization and time management skills. 

·       Ability to present ideas, conclusions and recommendations with clarity.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Solid public speaking skills; able to present ideas to diverse audiences. 

·       Experience with audience-tailored data visualizations using BI tools, such as Tableau. 

 

Location & Travel:

Located in Austin, TX with up to 20% time spent traveling to software partner, regional offices and/or store locations.
