ABOUT THE ROLE:

BlueVine is looking for an exceptional and experienced Data Science Manager  to join our Redwood City office. The ideal candidate is a data enthusiast with a proven track record of managing data science teams, solving complex data-related problems, using advanced statistical and machine learning tools, in a real-world product development setting. Candidates should demonstrate a proven track record of working with novel problem spaces, have built and mentored teams and driven significant impact for your organizations. We expect the candidates to have strong statistical, mathematical and technical skills, with proven capabilities to transition ideas into fully working projects. In addition, the candidate needs to have leadership skills, creative and out of the box problem-solving mindset.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Collaborate with many stakeholders across the organization to bring smart, real-time data-driven decision-making into our customer-facing and internal-facing products
  • Work with our stakeholders on collecting requirements and defining a state-of-the-art solution
  • Supervise the research, design and development of these features within the DS team and collaborate with the rest of the data-org teams and our R&D org to deliver a great product
  • Manage, coach and be advisor to a team of talented data scientists
  • Act as a data-science evangelist within the company helping other departments understand how data-science can help them and the company grow
  • Hire great data-science talent 

WHAT WE LOOK FOR:

  • Master’s Degree (PhD - a significant plus) in Statistics, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or any other related quantitative field
  • At least 7 years of hands-on experience within data science capacity in a fast-paced and complex business setting, preferably working as a Senior Data Scientist
  • At least 3 years of data-science team management experience
  • Experience working with the Python data-science ecosystem including machine learning libraries (xgboost, sklearn, scipy, etc.); natural language processing experience is a plus
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks (Tensorflow, PyTorch, etc) a plus
  • Technical, hands-on experience executing ‘big data’ research programs using mainstream data-science tools such as Python, SQL, R, Hive, Spark, Hadoop and Scala
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience in all aspects of the algorithms development/data science life cycle, from research and prototyping to deploying (and later maintaining) algorithms/models in a production environment
  • Strong project management skills and attention to detail, complimented by an ability to understand and articulate the ‘big picture’ to internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience with AWS AI / ML services, platforms and framework a plus
