Promotes store, regional, national, and global programs and specifications in Food Safety and Good Organics principles. Analyzes store food safety performance to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal food laws. Analyzes weights and measures, pest, and chemical store performance against regulatory requirements and company policy. Coordinates with region and store leadership to drive compliance by understanding gaps, verifying that corrective action is complete, and adjusting processes and audit criteria.

Will Do:

The Senior Metro Food Safety Analyst will develop, support, and sustain Store, Regional, National and Global programs and specifications in Food Safety and Good Organics principles. They will partner with Store and Regional leadership and Global Food Safety in providing support to store teams to maintain and improve compliance and excellence in all facets of the above.

The individual in this role will be responsible for supporting approximately 20-25 stores in the Southern Pacific Region (CA, AZ, HI, and NV, but may also be asked to support other areas, for a limited time, during extenuating circumstances. Candidates must live in the Los Angeles or Orange County area or be willing to relocate. This position will report to the Area Team Leader of Food Safety and have a strong dotted line to regional leadership.

General

  • Work with all levels of operational leadership in a collaborative and influential manner toward continuous improvement of food safety standards and operational excellence.
  • Develops and delivers clear, concise, and well-organized communication and reports for leadership.
  • Works with regional operations team to improve food safety and quality metrics.

Store Support

  • Collaborate with store leadership in establishing and revising ongoing pro-active Corrective Action Plans to support stores in meeting and/or exceeding all deliverables in a timely and effective manner.
  • Assess consistency and continuity in Food Safety programs including 3rd Party Food Safety Audit Provider, Training, Pest Control Service Providers, Chemical Providers and Regulatory Agency Inspections and report on trending and improvement opportunities.
  • Assist regions with store openings, plan review, and permitting process with regulatory authorities.
  • Assist regions/stores with the implementation of technology that promotes and enables improved Food Safety deliverables.
  • Provide support to Amazon Prime Now business as it pertains to in-store execution for picking and stowing and monthly Mystery Shop follow-up as needed.
  • Assists with the investigation and resolution of product safety and quality issues.
  • Supports the development and adjustment of audit criteria and policies/procedures for the stores to drive compliance and foster continuous improvement.
  • Walks RISE (Rapid Improvement Store Engagement) stores to engage store leadership on the importance of food safety store processes and policies to elevate store food safety culture and accountability.
  • Supports the resolution and root cause analysis for RISE stores, including swift execution of Corrective Action Plans and sustained improvement.
  • Provides store presence as necessary for Retail Food Safety and Incident Management support.

Audits and Regulatory

  • Interprets, reviews, monitors, and provides guidance for all forms of store audits and reports from 3rd Party Food Safety Audit Provider, Pest Control Service Providers, Chemical Providers and city, county and state Health Inspections.
  • Calibrate 3rd Party Food Safety Auditors to WFM Food Safety standards.
  • Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies and actively participates with state or national food safety regulatory agencies.
  • Guarantees effective company representation with regulatory officials to provide a coordinated, timely, and effective response to inquiries and concerns.
  • Enforces compliance with and adherence to established standards and practices, including health, sanitation, and safe work practices.
  • Work with Risk Management to address OSHA issues related to cleaning and chemical products.

Training

  • Execute successful training methods to provide effective regional/store training on all the above.
  • Guides Team Members and ensures the team meets all applicable WFM health and safety requirements.
  • Collaborates with a cross-functional team to develop technical training and to advise stores on food safety requirements and continuous improvement processes.

Purchasing

  • Collaborates with regional retail operations and GQA Supplier Quality Assurance team to deliver safe and high-quality products.

Process and Projects

  • Oversees development of corrective action strategies, ensuring execution and appropriate follow-up.
  • Supports science-based food safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal regulations.
  • Plays a key role in food safety projects that support continuous improvement of our Food Safety Program.
  • Advises on project management issues and assists with overcoming barriers.

Job Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree and 4-6 years’ relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Food Safety Certifications – Registered Sanitarian (RS), Certified Professional Food Safety (CP-FS), or Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS), or willing to achieve certification within 6 months.
  • Excellent working knowledge of FDA Food Code, USDA Requirements, State/Local Regulations, GRP’s, SSOPs, Organic Standards, CFIA Regulations, HACCP, ISO Quality Systems, Food Safety Management Training Programs, federal, state, and international food safety legislation.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain high productivity.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of recipe and product development, contract language, and specification management.
  • Understands the trends and emerging challenges facing the customer, market, and industry.
  • Demonstrates excellent knowledge of the product mix, supply base, and retail operations.
  • Able to identify alignment/misalignment of the team’s project goals with larger organizational strategy, goals, and objectives.
  • Able to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations.
  • Can effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of Leadership, Team Members, and the general public.
  • Able to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to communicate effectively with others.
  • Good at multi-tasking, time management, and decision making.
  • Excellent computer skills (Knowledge of PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Quark, Outlook).
  • Must be self-motivated, solution-oriented, and have good follow through.
  • Willing and able to work flexible hours.
  • High level of creativity and vision.
  • Can travel frequently (about 50%) within the metro region and occasionally outside the metro region.
  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills.

Physical requirements:

Lifting: Maximum 50 pounds unassisted, occasionally lifting, unpacking samples, carrying articles. In an 8 hour workday: standing/walking 1-4 hours and sitting 6-8 hours. Hand use: fine manipulation with some pushing & pulling. Work motions: twisting and reaching. Noise level in the work environment is moderate.
