The Opportunity
Rapid7 is looking for a Senior Manager to design, manage and implement a cutting-edge and forward-looking data & technology strategy. You’ll help us organize the data we have today, but you’ll also create a roadmap to augment our data and technology over time based on the needs of our business. You’ll be capable of understanding the underlying problems we’re trying to solve, thinking creatively of the most insightful ways to solve them using analytics and continuing our progression up the analytics maturity curve towards pervasive predictive and prescriptive analytics.
The Rapid7 BI & Analytics Team serves as the company’s analytic center of excellence, translating data into high-value, actionable insights for senior leadership, stakeholders and business partners, developing and refining new analyses in response to business needs, and bringing expertise on emerging trends in data analytics and predictive modeling. The team core tenets focus around driving analytic insight, data modeling, promoting data literacy and advanced analytics.
You have hands-on experience designing, creating and managing data infrastructure in a modern data technology stack. As the DataOps leader, you will lead the DataOps strategy to create a world class data supply chain that provides speed of access for exploration and experimentation while ensuring protection, privacy, timeliness, security, accuracy, and provenance of data assets to support all of Rapid7’s various data needs. You’ll have experience working with large-scale and small data sets, creating data pipelines, integrations, data models and fostering data security all in support of driving analytics, operations and transformational business outcomes. You’ll collaborate and motivate a team of dedicated data engineers to bring a single source of truth and self-service analytics to 2,000 employees. You and your data engineering team will partner with analysts, data scientists and operational stakeholders to evaluate business questions, design and implement data solutions that provide actionable insights on financial performance, sales leading indicators, customer acquisition & retention, marketing efficacy and other related topics. We’re looking for a leader who thinks strategically, thrives on data, works well through ambiguity, and is willing to dive into the details to execute.
In this role you will:
Leads and mentors a team of data engineers (infrastructure and data modeling), through complex data engineering tasks and guides the team on processes for selecting methods and techniques.
Develops and defines roadmap, objectives and prioritization for the team as well as for specific areas of assigned responsibility. Provide insights and recommendations to the Head of Analytics on courses of action to achieve team goals & OKRs.
Drives project milestones to completion. Builds partnerships, defines accountability, and leads the activities which operationalize key findings.
Refines and manages the vision and strategy for gathering and managing data requirements, integrations and democratizing data and self-service at Rapid7
Partners with analysts, data scientists, and other business stakeholders on projects to develop data pipelines, integrations and data models that provide business insight into leading indicators, improve operations & enhance business decision making
Develops methods, processes and required technologies to enable CI/CD. Promotes DataOps and MLOps as a core competency. Supports testing, training, and development of new business practices.
Enables Rapid7 employees with data literacy to improve self-service analytics across the enterprise
Ability to perform hands on work using data warehouse, able to write complex SQL, understand API connectors and viz best practices
Develops and maintains ETL/ELT routines and uses orchestration tools such as Airflow, Docker and Snowflake
Documents and publishes Metadata and table designs to facilitate data adoption.
Owns the relationships with key data technology vendors
Skilled at clearly communicating results and direction to a diverse audience of technical and non-technical stakeholders
Ability to tackle ambiguous problems, provide structure, and execute analysis
Owns communication path on timelines, analyses, enablement and manage expectations with internal stakeholders
Ad-hoc analysis as required to aid management decision making and business planning
Creates and delivers impactful presentations for mid-level and senior-level audiences
In return you will bring:
5+ years of data engineering experience with 2+ years managing a team with a track record of developing robust data pipelines, technology and business impact
Experience with data models deployed to Snowflake or AWS using a modern CI/CD pipeline (GitLabs, Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
Extremely proficient in SQL; Knowledge of Python, R, or Scala a plus
Advanced analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
DataOps, MLOps or a combination of Agile, DevOps and Lean Manufacturing principles
Experience with cloud compute provisioning, forecasting compute usage, and securing cloud data warehouses
Prior experience with CRM (Salesforce) and ERP (NetSuite) platforms and creating robust data pipelines (Batch and Stream processing) from disparate systems
Track record of managing and improving complex processes and very strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Strong communication and storytelling skills; experience in communicating with senior stakeholders in an open, direct and professional fashion
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Bachelor’s degree in Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Information Technology, Computer Science or related discipline
Expertise using modern data & ETL technologies such as Snowflake, AWS Redshift, Airflow, Docker, Fivetran/Stitch; experience in metadata management, data catalog and data quality tools & process a plus
