SQL Database Engineer
Being a SQL database administrator at Q2 is a faced paced and rewarding position where you will have endless opportunity to learn new things and work with some extremely talented DBAs. Our portfolio grows roughly 25% every year and we have infrastructure in both on premise and in the cloud. We also have a growing portfolio of open source database technologies that we manage and support. The ideal candidate is someone highly motivated that wants to continuously learn new things and become a word class DBA. They are open to change and can adapt to the ever evolving landscape of Fintech. This is not a place where you will be doing the same work every day and you will instead help us continue to scale by automating the mundane so we can focus on higher value work. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create processes and automation that makes our lives easier.
- Help developers tune their processes so that they are running smoothly and efficiently.
- Actively contribute to the configuration, layout and performance tuning of the production infrastructure.
- Work in Agile Scrum and be able to identify current gaps in the environment and take initiative to resolve them.
- Be able to explain technical problems and solutions to less technical people so that they can understand the implications of our work.
- Help us come up with new ways to monitor and collect information about our environment to proactively prevent production issues.
- Use lessons learned to develop practices that prevent production issues from reoccurring.
- Attend and actively participate in weekly scrum meetings.
- Participate in rotating 24x7 on call support coverage with other DBAs.
- Perform maintenance related activities during scheduled weekend maintenance windows as needed.
- Create and update existing documentation of processes and procedures in support of administration tasks
Skills and Qualifications
- 8+ years MS SQL Server Administration experience required
- Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in related field
- T-SQL and scripting skills.
- Knowledge of Query Optimizer and query performance tuning
- Knowledge of SQL Server Internals, wait types, scheduling, etc
- Knowledge of AlwaysOn.
- Knowledge in Windows Clustering
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Flexible, team player, “get-it-done” personality
- Ability to organize and plan work independently is critical.
- Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment
- Ability to multi-task and context-switch effectively between different activities and teams
- Postgres or MySQL experience a plus
- .NET or other object oriented development experience a big plus.
