We’re looking for an algorithms engineer to work on mathematics, modeling, data analysis and algorithm creation and optimization. You will be focused on delivering best-in-class custom algorithms deployed via our custom firmware, which translates motion signals data into realtime metrics about running stride. You will work alongside other engineers (firmware, hardware & mobile software), data collection & research scientists, internal running & performance coaches, internal innovation partners, hardware & software QA, and product management professionals to successfully support and deliver for our product and engineering roadmaps.


To thrive in this role, you will need to collaborate well with software teams working in an Agile environment, own solutions from idea to implementation, encourage pragmatic decisions and tight feedback loops and take calculated risks based on collaboration with your peers. Quality is a specific and intense focus for this team, collaborating on algorithms and firmware code that will provide the highest degree of accuracy for Under Armour consumers.


Responsibilities:

  • Lead algorithm development, modeling, data analysis and presentation of findings and next steps to business stakeholders.
  • Work closely with our Firmware and Product Science teams to implement and validate algorithms in preparation for shipping to millions of consumers.
  • Collaborate with our in-house hardware QA and automation QA functions to ensure high-quality, accurate algorithms are deliver in our final products.
  • Debug, and partner on issue triage, related to algorithm accuracy, potential improvements, and feasibility of implementation in our embedded environment.
  • Liaise with our Footwear Development and Innovation teams as a key stakeholder in their process, and evangelist of connected footwear abilities and future roadmap.


Required Skills & Experience:

  • M.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a specialty in biomechanics, or equivalent of 8+ years of work experience
  • Significant experience creating data models in MATLAB or similar, and summarizing and presenting results to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience cleaning input data for analysis, outlier rejection, noise filtering or fitting to models.
  • Excellent technical documentation, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical and methodical approach to data analysis and verification.


Preferred Skills & Experience (or Some of What You’ll Learn on the Job):

  • Experience deducing specific biomechanical metrics from unfiltered IMU data in an extremely processing-constrained environment.
  • Experience in a biomechanics lab collecting live subject sample data.
  • Experience with developing algorithms for embedded systems.
  • This role will require some domestic & international travel, on the order of 2–4 weeks per year.
