VRBO is looking for a proactive, analytical and technically skilled leader to join our Analytics and Data Insights team. This person will lead a team that partners every day with our Americas and EMEA Business leaders, providing those customers with the data, reporting, and insight needed to improve overall company performance.
The Business/Retail team at VRBO has three primary responsibilities: (1) Determine the best way to drive traffic and bookings efficiently at a local level; (2) Recommend ways to improve our end-to-end customer experience, with a focus on local-level optimization opportunities; and (3) Partner with all our other VRBO teams cross-functionally to ensure we deliver our financial plan. The Advanced Data Insights manager and her/his team will partner with them to achieve those goals, providing a broad spectrum of data and insights ranging from destination-level optimization recommendations to proposed high-level changes we could make to our revenue model. The team will also similarly partner with product and marketing leaders, on a basis prioritized by Retail, to support major initiatives for the company. This role reports to the Director of Global Advanced Data Insights. The role requires an individual with excellent analytical and hands-on technical abilities, combined with strong presentation and communication skills. She/he will lead a small team of highly skilled analysts located in Austin and London.
What You'll Do:
Develop new and innovative analyses based on Retail priorities, and guided by Market knowledge, to inform Product and Marketing roadmaps
Participate in and help lead sections of the Retail weekly meetings to ensure insight-based decision making
Understand key business and conversion drivers to better define KPIs for Retail that are aligned with the company’s overall strategic direction
Partner with key stakeholders to prioritize requests based on highest potential value added, and proactively drive initiatives from there
Collaborate with cross-functional teams globally - especially engineering and other Analytics teams - to clarify and document customer requirements
Work with the broader Analytics Platform team in an Agile model to create self-service data products that will allow the Retail and other teams to access accurate information directly
Create visualizations that allow customers to easily see important trends in our KPIs, and which the Analytics or Retail teams can use to spot anomalies and/or opportunities
Respond to ad hoc analytical questions from key partners, especially for readouts on key tests and/or recent changes that could heavily impact company sales
Partner with the Technology and Engineering teams to ensure continuous improvement in data collection and underlying data systems to adequately support advancements in our data products and improve our insight
Ensure that the team of analysts has training and career development plans that will set them up for success today and going forward
Who You Are:
- Bachelor's degree in an analytical field (e.g., Strategy, Business, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics) and 7+ years of experience in data analytics OR Masters degree in an analytical field (e.g. Strategy, Business, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics) and 5+ years of experience
3+ years experience in either e-commerce/travel industry or strategic consulting strongly preferred
2+ years experience managing teams
Extensive experience with SQL required; some experience with big data platforms/languages (Hadoop, Hive) and other coding languages (Python, Scala) Required. Some experience with data engineering would be advantageous
Proven experience working with web analytics and visualization platforms (i.e.: Google Analytics, Tableau, Periscope) to create self-service visualizations
Proven track record of solving complex business problems and communicating easily understood recommendations to teams for implementation
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrable ability to deliver compelling fact-based presentations
Passion for number crunching, logical problem solving and intellectual challenges
Strong business sense, strategic thinking and team building skills
Ability to decompose a line of business into its underlying drivers and then model changes in those drivers based on historic data to estimate the impact on the overall business
High technical aptitude, with a willingness to develop further as data-based analyses grow deeper and more complex
Comfort with uncertainty by prioritizing effectively and flexibly handling changes
Ability to work across different business units/countries to communicate findings company-wide
Ability to work independently and proactively, identifying issues and raising them to management, as well as offering potential solutions
Ability to build and present evidence-based stories
Excellent organization skills, and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
