We are looking for a highly motivated, technically adept Staff/Lead AI Research Scientist to help us build the next generation of algorithms for clinical decision making and population health management. You will have a strong interest in developing and applying state of the art machine learning methods to clinical decision making, and ideally have a strong understanding in a relevant area including but not limited to AI in medicine, causal inference & graphical models, time series forecasting, reinforcement learning, and decision support systems. As a senior member of the Applied Sciences team, you will report directly to the Chief Scientific Officer, and will pursue collaborative applied research projects within a multidisciplinary team of researchers including: machine learning researchers, statisticians, epidemiologists and clinicians, who are working together to build a platform for healthcare delivery that will directly impact and improve the lives of millions globally. WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON

  • Lead the development of state-of-the-art algorithms to: 
  • Identify optimal treatment effects/interventions from observational data
  • Risk stratify populations for effective population health management.
  • Advise and collaborate on ongoing research projects
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior researchers
  • Defining experimentation and data collection strategy 
  • Design and implement state-of-the-art ML approaches for risk prediction and causal simulation 
  • Provide thought leadership by publishing research papers at leading conferences and in top tier journals, as well as communicating research through media and outreach
  • Presenting findings from research to senior stakeholders across the business, to inform strategic decisions 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Proven track record leading applied AI research projects, ideally in risk prediction, individual treatment effect estimation, medical time series forecasting, or clinical decision making
  • Comfortable working with researchers and non-research stakeholders in an applied science environment
  • Comfortable working with large aggregated datasets, and ideally with healthcare data
  • Ability to construct productionisable prototypes in a collaborative codebase 
  • Understanding of core concepts in population health, primary healthcare or epidemiology is a plus

  • Comfortable working in a research setting, and should have applied industry experience.
  • High degree of individual initiative, and an ability to engage stakeholders and other teams within Babylon.
