As Design Manager on our Design Systems team, you will report to the VP of Product Design and shape our design system DNA into a high-quality foundation that all our product experiences will be built upon. The Design System at Babylon Health is a high-impact project that drives product iteration as our services continue to grow globally and powers both our member-facing and professional tooling.

You’ll be a key contributor in establishing best practice design across UI components, interaction patterns, and visual design as well as owning the documentation and overall design language. You’ll guide the vision for the entire system.

You’ll have a passion for quality experiences that are accessible and usable. You’ll advocate for the design system across the organization, engaging with key stakeholders and collaborating with all our product teams. As well as managing a team of designers to create and refine a systematic and unified visual language for Babylon’s products across our mobile and web platforms. 

WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON

• Leadership and strategy:
• Create a strategy and vision to move our design system to the next level
• Partner with Experience Design, Product Management, and Engineering leadership to plan and coordinate work across the Design Systems team to meet strategic goals and roadmap objectives
• Manage and build a team of designers focussed on scale, accessibility, and usability
• Collaborate with Product Designers and cross-functional roles to shape the direction of the system
• Delivery:
• Use an iterative process, working closely with design and engineering counterparts to design, prototype, and validate design ideas
• Create components, high fidelity prototypes, user guidelines, presentation decks, and concepts under specific direction from senior design staff
• Document guidelines for using and implementing components
• Develop tools and processes for designers and engineers to engage with the design system
• Create best in class foundational components, patterns and visual language
• Raise the quality of visual and interaction design by bringing inspired ideas to the table and guiding those ideas through to fruition with attention to detail
• Develop and manage original creative that is informed by experience strategy, research, and brand and marketing principles

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• You have led a team of designers as well as led teams that have contributed to high impact projects
• You have worked across multiple platforms (iOS, Android, web), and bring an in-depth craft knowledge of systematizing mobile experiences and best practice
• You have created, scaled and iterated design systems, bringing a systematic approach to creating products at scale
• You have a strong portfolio showing the User-Centered Design Process applied to systems 
• You are skilled at both visual and interaction design and proven ability to design reusable components and patterns
• You have worked closely with front-end engineers and have the technical knowledge (ie. HTML, CSS) that enables close partnership
• You have experience designing for both accessibility and internationalization
• Strong communicator and collaborator who is comfortable giving and taking design feedback and justifying decisions
• Experience working with engineers in the Agile software development framework
• Skilled with Figma, including libraries and symbols
