We’re looking for an established Lead Product Designer to head the Care Enabler experience team at Babylon.

This team focuses on designing innovative solutions for professional users. Care Enablers are central to delivering care efficiently and ensuring a seamless member experience in Babylon’s cross-functional Value Based Care model.

The lead has a key impact in driving design strategy for the Care Enabler experience and and influencing the product roadmap, collaborating closely with our partners in product, engineering as well as operations. The role includes line managing designers and guiding the work of the wider experience design team including research and service design.

The candidate can be based in locations on Eastern or Central time, ideally at one of Babylon's office hubs (Brooklyn NY, Austin TX).

WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON

• Lead design across the end to end experience for a user group; connecting that to a broader service vision
• Act as Team Lead to coordinate Experience Design work across Product Design, Service Design, and User Research for the Care Enabler experience
• Be a true peer to the Product and Engineering Leads - supportive yet challenging and using your emotional intelligence to foster excellent team-work and decision making
• Balance user value versus effort and to ensure the roadmap is informed and validated by research and evidence
• Facilitate cross-discipline sessions as part of early product definition - likely pulling from a tool box of lean UX approaches, design sprint and prototyping methods
• Partner with user research leads to shape strategic research within a tribe
• Create user journey and service maps illustrating user needs, pain points, and business opportunities as we evolve our products to support Value Based Care
• Guide your team when defining processes and approaches for tackling design or research problems
• Oversee the design work within your team ensuring a high standard of quality
• Ensure our products follow accessibility standards and create a standard by encouraging contribution to our design system guidelines
• Act as a guardian of team culture, identifying issues that may impact morale and help to mitigateInspire, teach, line manage and conduct performance reviews for the designers in your team
• Help build a strong design and learner-mindset culture by sharing your teams experiences with the design chapter, being an evangelist for user-centric approaches in the broader organisation, and actively participating in the design community

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• Ability to make others better through work reviews and critiques, thorough documentation, guidance, teaching and mentoring
• Expertise in several core design skills. We don’t believe in the design unicorn, so we expect a specialised depth and/or breadth of expertise across the UX and product design spectrum of core skills
• Mature people and leadership skills. Design is not only about craft and at this level we also expect you have begun to master several key people and leadership skills. These include communication and presentation skills - ability to communicate design effectively, regardless of the audience; receiving and giving constructive feedback; and leading workshops as a design facilitator
• Experience facilitating workshops and leading meetings. Proven ability to collaborate successfully with cross-functional peers and teams (AI, Engineering, Marketing, Product) to develop concepts and products
• Ability to clarify success metrics and tie efforts toward delivering business value
• Understands how their work fits in to the overall Babylon service, identifying blockers and problems and actively works to fix them
• A keen eye for detail, but ability to rapidly solve problems using everything from a basic sketch to high fidelity prototypes

Qualifications and Experience - Essential:

• Extensive experience leading and working on a diverse range of problems, delivering great design work particularly for software tools and responsive web apps
• Deep understanding of interaction design, communication design and user-centered methods likely based upon an academic degree in design or HCI
• Experience working in cross functional Agile teams to build and iterate great products
• Experience leading individuals or teams and help them be their best selves and deliver great work.

• Experience solving for B2B/ internal users and needs
• Experience designing for complex functional web and desktop products
