Job Description:
Product Designer, Gamification
The Opportunity
We are hiring a Product Designer to help with the mission of making learning easier and more fun by building game mechanics into our product. You will help learners get started, stay motivated and celebrate their learning accomplishments. You will focus on the user interface and experience of our badging system that issues tens of millions of badges annually, the trophy case that displays badges, and communications that celebrate progress and nudge learners toward their next learning opportunity.
You will be tasked with not only iterating on our current product offerings, but creating new modular, extensible game mechanics throughout the platform that empirically drive the behaviors learners need to be successful and reach their learning goals. You will work with a cross functional Product Experience Team (PXT) consisting of yourself, a Product Manager and four Software Engineers, with regular support from Data Scientists, Product Analysts and IT Operations to reach your objectives.
Who you are:
- You ask unbiased questions, understand nuance, and challenge conventional wisdom
- You have unbounded optimism, drive, and persistence.
- You distill clarity from ambiguity
- You explore divergent ideas to articulate trade offs
- You are a critical thinker and a systems problem solver
- You understand that what people say they want and what they actually want may differ
- You are open to the best solution, regardless of its source
What you'll own:
- You'll drive the usability and framing of the Gamification products
- Creating divergent concepts, wireframes, designs and prototypes for testing, experimentation and development
- Collaborating with team members to design the right experiment for the research question
- Iterating through conceptual research and usability testing
- Defining the information architecture, the interactions, and the visual design
Experience you'll need:
- 5+ years of user experience design and visual design for Software or other GUI experiences
- A strong understanding of user research and human-centered design
- An analytical approach to testing new features
- Strong communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to speak on a technical level and communicate clearly with engineers
- Strong interest in the learning, and in improving how consumers consume and interact with content
- Experience with products that use machine learning or emergent technology a plus
