What you'll do:
We are looking for a senior design leader to be a driving force in creating world-class experiences that help people find and enjoy a home of their own. This role will partner closely with cross-functional leaders in Product and Engineering to create and execute against our bold vision for transforming the real estate industry. As part of our growth org, you will have a propensity and desire to ship quickly and boldly. You will be responsible for building, leading, and mentoring a high-performing team of skilled product designers and design managers.
An ideal candidate will have a strong background in working with world-class consumer-facing brands. This role will play an integral part in unifying visual identities and applications from the RDC brand, acquired companies and products, as well as helping manage new features in this growing org.
This role reports to the VP of Design.
This position will be successful by taking ownership and initiative to up-level product design and user experiences in one of the Company’s key product verticals. There are three areas where this leadership is most required:
Design Leadership
- Craft a cohesive and exceptional aesthetic in the product experiences within your vertical, and collaborate across all verticals to ensure consistency
- Create and uphold a high standard for design excellence, and challenge work that does not meet it
- Provide clear, precise and actionable feedback to designers in a time sensitive environment
- Articulate the value of design decisions with credibility, clarity, and confidence to product and engineering leaders as well as cross-functional partners and other important stakeholders
- Uphold the values and culture through servant leadership, exemplifying daily the high standards we must have to succeed
Management
- Recruit, develop, and challenge a team of designers working on multiple challenges
- Provide managing and mentoring to direct reports, and equip managers to do the same
- Strong process for developing craft in others
- Actively promote employee growth paths and talent retention
- Provide visibility and accountability for your team’s work
- Build partnerships and trust-based relationships with Engineering and Marketing, as well as other key partners
Operations
- Help nurture the efficient use of software tools and user-centric design thinking methodologies
- Contribute to an inclusive culture of design which invites all to contribute
- Work with the VP of Design and other leaders to establish standard design and UX methodologies, and ensure consistent adoption and understanding of such across the team
What you'll bring:
- 10+ years working in design industry
- 7+ years of working in a product-led organization
- 3+ years of managing a team of five or more designers
- 2+ years of managing managers
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- A strong visual aesthetic and design point of view, exampled in a rich portfolio of consumer-oriented work
- Extensive hands-on leadership skills across ux and visual design
- Experience delivering iteratively with cross-disciplined teams
- Experience designing for native mobile apps
- Informed and strong opinions, loosely held
- A practitioner of user-centric processes and design thinking principles
- Exemplifies a We, Not Me attitude
- Previous work in an agency environment is a plus

The quoted salary range represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect in the listed locations. We tailor our offers based on the selected candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, location and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process. All ranges are location based, ranges for positions in other locations may vary based on the local market.
Salary Range for select office locations
Santa Clara $ 270,700 to $ 392,700
Westlake Village $246,300 to $ 356,300
New York $ 270,700 to $ 392,700
Pay-for-performance is a key element in our strategy to attract, engage, and motivate talented people to do their best work. Accordingly, offers extended for this role will include an annual bonus target typically expressed as percentage of salary. Similarly to salary, annual incentive bonus targets are set based on a variety of factors including job level, competitive market practice, experience, tenure, and essential skills.
