We're about to do some amazing things and we think you'll want to be a part of this journey. We're looking for a Sr. Design Manager to join our team and provide immediate impact to Spark's product evolution and strategy. In this role you and your team will focus on horizontal experiences across Spark, including SEO, search and discovery, productivity and collaboration, creative systems, and extensibility. You'll demystify to users what they can create, how they can best accomplish their goals, and why they should return. As a broad role, it will require a champion for crafting experiences that scale across a wide range of surfaces, including services and systems.
This pragmatic leader will employ a user-centered and data-informed approach to lead the horizontal design team. They will work closely alongside their product manager, engineering, and marketing peers to develop ideas from concept to implementation. This role offers a chance to taken on a large scope with high visibility across the organization at a pivotal moment of growth. Most of all, you'll have fun while driving results.
In this role, you will:
Lead. Enable a highly effective UX design organization including a culture of critique from concept through finished product. Attract design talent to the team, while growing and retaining the rest.
Strategize. Define the future through experience and business opportunities, including how users discover value and engage with our solutions across multiple platforms, segments, channels, and partners.
Simplify. Break down large and complex problems into solvable chunks while prioritizing reliably in fast-moving and evolving environments to deliver practical design solutions
Collaborate. Partner with other functional teams and orgs (apps, content, growth, platform, commerce, marketing, etc.) to ensure that there are stories that speak to multiple touch points of the user journey.
Visualize. Bring design to life. Articulate the need and proposed solutions through strategy decks, storyboards, hi-fidelity mockups, prototypes, or animations across all levels of the organization.
Influence. As a sought-after advocate for design excellence, you show design-thought leadership through collaborative sessions and workshops with product and engineering partners
What you need to succeed:

  • 5+ years of management and leadership experience with a history of operational excellence
  • Experience working in large teams with many moving parts and matrixed organizations
  • Working directly with product leadership and executives on ambiguous problems and crafting big picture strategies driven by design
  • Experience working with and/or helping your team conduct research, presenting results and acting on those results
  • Awareness of how visual design languages and UI frameworks affect the design process and contribute to the adoption of design systems.
  • A consistent track record of launching products that delight, innovate and scale
  • Willingness and ability to contribute to the creative spirit of the design team and the company
  • Ability to create mechanisms and processes to deliver quality product experiences in an effective, predictable way
  • Fantastic instincts when visualizing large amounts of content in modular ways without sacrificing hierarchies, comprehension, etc.
  • Previously designed wayfinding and discovery experiences with large inventories of content (for example: media, fashion, news, social, search, or commerce platforms)
  • Familiarity with search methodologies: ranking, query disambiguation, and AI/ML to optimize for intent scenarios
  • A degree in a design-related field (HCI, interaction, visual), or comparable work experience
