The Role

You will join a team developing state-of-the-art general-purpose robots designed to operate in human spaces and with human tools. It is designed to work alongside humans, mobilize to human spaces, and manipulate the world around it.

We are seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to lead our team of Systems and Product Validation engineers towards commercialization of our general-purpose robots. This is a unique opportunity to have a large impact at a high growth start-up. This position requires industry expertise spanning mechanical, electrical, and software domains to drive systems engineering architecture and validation. Responsibilities:

  • Build the systems, safety, and certification strategy to drive the commercialization of Apptronik’s general purpose robots.
  • Grow and lead the systems engineering team to develop systems requirements, drive traceability to design and product validation.
  • Lead the product safety roadmap and requirements development to ensure Apptronik’s design is in alignment with applicable safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with product management and design engineering teams to ensure technical feasibility and testability of requirements and translate customer requirements into clear engineering requirements.
  • Build and grow the product validation engineering team to drive design verification and product validation of Apptronik’s products.
  • Lead the development of test methodologies, procedures, automated testing frameworks and drive traceability to system requirements.
  • Collaborate with 3rd party laboratories to ensure rigorous validation of Apptronik’s products across safety, certification, and product requirements.
  • Develop engineering requirements management process and implement systems engineering best practices and procedures to accelerate product development cycles.
  • Build and lead Product Reliability growth strategy and drive engineering issue resolutions in a timely manner.
  • Mentor and train leaders within the systems and validation team.

 

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated in-depth expertise in systems engineering and requirements development in mobile robotics and automation.
  • Expertise in product safety and regulatory standards as applied to industrial robots.
  • Experience in safety-critical system development standards, software safety fault / hazard analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading engineering validation and reliability growth.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working cross-functionally in a dynamic, high-tech, startup environment.
  • Experience with structured problem-solving approach and agile development methodologies.

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering. Master’s degree in engineering preferred.
  • 15+ years of relevant professional experience
  • 10+ years of experience leading engineering teams
  • Familiarity with relevant safety standards, such as IEC 61508, ANSI/RIA R15.08, ISO 26262, ISO 21448, UL/ANSI 4600.
  • Familiarity with applications of Artificial Intelligence technologies to sensing, perception and control of humanoid robots.
