Advisory CISO
Duo’s mission is to make security simple for everyone. We were born from a hacker ethos and a desire to make the Internet a secure place.
Our roots and values were forged in the Midwest. We believe in enabling and empowering people to follow their passions inside and outside of the office. Collaboration is our standard operating practice, and we actively seek to reduce barriers to brilliance.
Our team is our secret weapon. We run the spectrum from artists to analysts, low-key to high energy, and bring together a diversity of skill sets, experiences, and perspectives to solve what we consider to be the world's most pressing geopolitical challenge — transforming the security industry as we know it.
Together we build solutions that are easy, effective, trustworthy, and enduring. And that’s why we are the most loved and trusted company in security.
Reporting to the Advisory CISO Director, you will raise Duo’s public profile and promote its message and mission, using your technical and strategic expertise. By engaging both at scale (through public speaking, writing, social media, analyst and press briefings, and working group participation) and directly (meeting with customers and prospects for high-stakes strategic discussions), you will help Duo build on its leadership position in democratizing security: making it easy, effective, and transparent.
In this role, you will collaborate widely within the company, representing the CISO and practitioner points of view in product design, sales training, marketing, security research, and other areas. You will embody Duo’s values of supporting our customers’ missions, learning together with internal and external partners, and contributing to the industry’s state of knowledge. Using your own experience as a security leader and your understanding of security technology, risk management and end-user priorities, you will help Duo continue to grow within multiple verticals and organization sizes.
What you’ll do…
- Promote Duo’s leadership in areas such as the BeyondCorp security model, through external means such as white papers, blogging, webinars, conference talks, podcasts, and press interviews. As a brand ambassador, bolster Duo’s reputation as a trusted advisor and the Most Loved Company in Security.
- Support sales initiatives through event participation, strategy calls and visits with high-stakes customers and prospects, and training in security concepts and marketing messages as they pertain to Duo’s offerings.
- Work closely with Product, CorpSec, Engineering, Marketing, Recruiting, and Customer Success to understand and support their objectives. For example, use contacts and event participation to feed the Recruiting pipeline; provide feedback where solicited by the Design team; build reference architectures incorporating Duo’s products; contribute to Product roadmap discussions; amplify Duo colleagues’ voices in the public sphere.
- Give back to the security community through joint research with partners, participating in conferences through program committees or with submitted or invited talks, joining key industry working groups, mentoring, and similar activities.
Skills you have…
- At least five years’ experience in a CISO or CISO role (manager, director or other high-level executive in a security team) OR as a senior security consultant advising enterprise security teams (in management areas such as security architecture, governance, risk management, compliance, incident response, or identity and access management).
- Experience working on security in healthcare, education, finance, government, or retail (preferably more than one area)
- Past technical experience (hands-on) in at least 3 security knowledge areas (preferably identity and access management, endpoint and mobile security, network security, incident response, compliance, and application security)
- History of successful community engagement in non-closed platforms (i.e. not vendor- or membership-based communities)
- Blogging, report and white paper writing on a regular basis for general audiences
- Public speaking and/or teaching experience for at least 5 non-local conferences
3 reasons why you should apply…
- Being the glue that brings different people and disciplines together. You will synthesize concepts and ideas in security strategy, create “canon” materials that represent Duo’s approach and values, and collaborate with key thinkers inside and outside Duo.
- Learning about a wide variety of environments, and the challenges that CISOs face. You will exchange knowledge with practitioners in small, medium and very large enterprises, and gain perspectives to make Duo’s offerings even easier and more effective.
- Bringing your creativity to colleagues and the community. Whether it’s curating a security event track, finding a new way to depict a security framework, or strategizing on Duo’s next disruptive offering, you will build on technology in innovative ways.
Duo is committed to cultivating and preserving a culture of inclusion and connectedness. We are able to grow and learn better together with a diverse team of employees. The collective sum of the individual differences, life experiences, knowledge, innovation, self-expression, and talent that our employees invest in their work represents not only part of our culture, but our reputation and Duo’s achievement as well. In recruiting for our team, we welcome the unique contributions that all potential candidates can bring in terms of their education, opinions, culture, ethnicity, race, gender identity and expression, nationality, age, languages spoken, veteran’s status, religion, disability, sexual orientation and beliefs.
And if this role is exciting you, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet all 100% of the description or qualifications. Finally and most importantly, we are a proud Equal Opportunity Employer.
