Database Administrator

The Database Administrator is responsible for administration and monitoring of Amherst’s database systems.  The DBA works with the Development and IT teams to ensure the performance and security of Amherst’s SQL servers and databases.  Responsibilities include maintenance, performance tuning, backup, as well as development of new SQL functions and procedures.

Responsibilities:

• Setup, maintain, and monitor Amherst’s database environments
• Manage Security and Access control for databases
• Maintain database backups
• Support Data Development team with ETL and research efforts
• Assist application developers with database design and performance tuning
• Develop and refine SQL functions and procedures in coordination with development teams
• Capacity planning to ensure database environment can grow with the business
• Troubleshoot issues across the Amherst data platform and assist with resolution
• Analyze and provide best practice recommendations for performance tuning and optimization

Qualifications:

• 3-5 years of SQL Server database administration experience
• Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work effectively with clients and team members
• Ability to work in a complex environment with clusters as well as standalone machines; some on premise hardware and some virtualized
• Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2014 - 2016
• SQL scripting experience
• Data Warehousing methodologies
