Hyliion is looking for a Director Controls and Software Engineeering to join our engineering team in Austin. This full-time position offers the opportunity to be a part of a fast-growing company that is revolutionizing the trucking industry. You will be joining an experienced engineering team in the design, simulation, implementation and testing of electrical powertrain systems. Reports to VP Software

• Lead the development of Hyliion’s Controls and Software products for Class-8 truck applications
• Production delivery of Controls, Requirements, Embedded Software, Cloud, Analytics, Mcom / HMI solutions
• Manage Hyliion’s broad software initiatives including back-end, front-end and core value algorithms for hybrid and fully electric products
• Work with outside engineering partners to delegate and track work packets while in parallel continuing to build the capabilities of Hyliion’s software and controls team
• Manage team of senior managers delivering to quarterly production driven milestones
• Apply automotive software development experience to ensure robust, seamless integration and certification of Hyliion products for class 8 truck applications
• Develop and validate diagnostics for Hyliion’s commercialized product suite
• Responsible for all software aspects of product certification
• Support the creation of key APQP documents including FMEAs and DVP&Rs to drive product software reliability and robustness
• Represent Hyliion and present technical papers at key industry conferences

• Experience with communications protocols like CAN, USB, ethernet, TCP/IP
• Understanding of networking and networked-computing concepts is required; specifically, synchronization, race conditions and debugging communication protocols
• Competency with modern collaboration tools (like Slack, Jira Service Desk)
• Experienced with Atlassian products including Confluence, Jira and Bitbucket
• Experienced with the agile development process
• Expert in developing high-level software architectures
• APQP toolsets including FMEAs and DVP&R

• Strong follow-through and self-starting nature
• Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions
• Position will involve travel visiting engineering providers and hardware suppliers
• Ability to work well in a high-paced environment, set and meet appropriate deadlines
• Ability to positively and effectively communicate with customers (internal and external), to address their needs promptly and to follow through on commitments

Required Qualifications:

• 10-years of experience in an automotive electrification environment
• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline

• Ability to lift and/ or move up to 25 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision
