About LABS:

The Sysco LABS Customer Experience (CX) team has developed a ground-up rewrite of Sysco’s $40BB+ US eCommerce platform and is looking for a Director of Mobile Engineering to lead the development of the next set of business-impacting features.  The Austin engineering team will continue a high rate of growth over the next 2-3 years and the Engineering Director will drive the strategy and organizational process across teams.  

 Scope:

Manage the people, processes and technical direction across designated mobile engineering teams.  Oversee and direct the performance, efficiency and leadership of the mobile engineering teams in addition to the delivery of high-quality, robust, and scalable software to production on a regular basis.  Partner with product, engineering, data and analytics, research and deash leadership to drive a cohesive strategy for mobile engineering.

 Essential Functions:

• Own, oversee, and execute the development, testing, deployment, and delivery of large-scale software applications. Manage engineering team leads and software engineers.
• Work with engineering managers and software engineers to facilitate predictable, iterative delivery of high-quality software using Agile principles to meet the business requirements. Drive tribe-level development methodology.
• Partner with Product Management to set product and development strategy and vision with an eye towards balancing productivity and customer experience.
• Advocate for engineering-led initiatives that improve speed, quality, agility, and developer experience. Ensure quality of technical solutions provided by the team.
• Deliver robust and scalable solutions, incorporating in new technologies as appropriate.
• Coach managers in both their technical and professional development. Identify and coordinate tribe training needs.
• Recruit, retain and develop exceptional engineering talent. Cultivate a positive company culture that values cross team collaboration and trust.
• Continuously optimize team and development processes. Define team-level policies and procedures, as necessary.
• Own team-level budgets.

 Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related technical field or equivalent self-study.
• 7 years’ in management role leading a team of software engineers.
• 10 years of professional technical experience developing iOS and/or Android applications.
• Understanding and practical application of development methodologies, test automation, and continuous integration strategies.
• Experience managing or leading teams operating in AWS environments.
• Experience in an agile environment.

 Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a start-up environment.
• Experience mentoring and developing technical and functional skills of team members.
