Job Overview: We are looking for an experienced Director of Engineering to define, prioritize, and lead the daily executions of the software development and information technology teams. This person must create a team-oriented, problem-solving culture focused on ingenuity and performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead high-performing software development teams and information technology teams
  • Develop a technology strategy and implementation plan that aligns with the business, product development, and architecture evolution plans
  • Manage multiple projects using the Agile methodology
  • Create a culture of innovation to deliver a first-in-class product
  • Collaborate across Product Management, Client Services, Marketing, Sales, and other teams
  • Represent engineering as a key member of the executive leadership team
  • Instill development best practices that drive a high-quality result
  • Mentor, train, and help grow the engineering management team
  • Consistently demonstrate the values of continuous improvement, ownership, and transparency
  • Set project priorities and coordinate the projects from development through implementation, including staffing requirements, work plans, deadlines, completeness, and adherence to established policies, procedures, and standards
  • Oversee architectural decisions that improve scalability, performance, and the overall user experience of the product
  • Collaborate with Executive Management, Product Management, Marketing, Sales, and Client Services to competitively differentiate the product and resolve issues that affect the success
  • Foster a results-oriented, continuous-improvement environment based on Agile principles
  • Help us continue to create a great product that will increase revenue and exceed customer expectations

Qualifications:

  • Expert with the Scrum Methodology of the Agile software development process
  • Possess strong software architecture skills
  • Capable of managing, retaining, and developing a diverse group of technology professionals
  • Deadline-driven and self-motivated
  • Proven success in scaling and leading a development organization
  • Strong process and project/system management skills
  • Ability to work as an effective leader and ability to develop working relationships needed to accomplish organizational goals
  • Ability to solicit constructive input from and build consensus among groups and constituencies with differing priorities and perspectives
  • Understand the current and evolving needs of existing and potential customers
  • Have a strong technical and operational understanding of QA, production environment requirements, version control, and infrastructure
  • Have exceptional problem-solving skills

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer science, or related field (advanced degree in business management, technology, or planning a plus)
  • Minimum of 8 years of technical experience in software development with 5 years in management
  • Significant experience in SAAS model software development
  • 2+ years of experience in an Agile environment using either Scrum or XP
  • Experience developing the skills and abilities of individual developers
