SkillsEngine's Director of Engineering has deeply internalized our mission and thrives at the intersection of business, people, and technology. They possess deep technical expertise, high-level business perspective, and the ability to effectively lead, influence, and execute to achieve strategic business goals. They have experience working in a broad range of technologies and understand the impact technology choices can have on business outcomes. Our Director of Engineering is a strategic and analytical thinker, process-oriented and organized, a creative problem solver and quick learner, a creator as well as a decision maker and hands-on leader. This critical, strategic, and highly visible role is a part of the management team reporting directly to our Chief Executive Officer.

What you'll do:

As the Director of Engineering, you'll be both a manager and individual contributor, responsible for hiring, managing, and mentoring a team of engineers as well as acting as the lead engineer. You will be actively involved in researching and analyzing engineering solutions to meet future business needs as well as implementing features for new and existing products. As a part of the management team, you'll help shape and provide leadership for strategic goals and objectives, significantly impacting our overall direction and success of the organization.

• Provide strategic technical leadership, understanding both the technical and business sides of software development.
• Manage, mentor, and provide leadership to the engineering team.
• Act as the lead engineer, developing product features, implementing best practices, and prioritizing shipped features over perfect solutions.

About you:

• You have 10+ years experience developing SaaS products using web technologies; experience with Ruby on Rails is a huge plus.
• You have awareness and/or experience with the broader ecosystem and approaches in data science.
• You are adept at ​​interdisciplinary collaboration & communication, especially peer to peer and c-suite level communication.
• You are proactive, adaptable, and organized.
